Yellow Starfire

I know this has been talked about before but I can't find any pictures. Can anyone post some internal turbine conversion pictures of their starfire. Also tell what and were you got the stuff to complete the conversion.

Hi,

Yeah, there really isn't anything you need you can't get from Yellow or from your LHS. There are turbine inlets available as well as conformal fuel cells with 68 oz capacity. That with a 12-oz header is plenty for P-80ish power. They run just as well without a bypass as with. You don't need anything special at all, other than a tailpipe, also available from Yellow. If you have any questions, gimme a call. Hope this helps.

I'm also looking at getting a starfire from a buddy of mine, since were on the topic of turbine conversions what is the advatage of a full bypass system as opposed to a non-bypass system. I was thinking that it may protect against hot starts but never really have found a good explination?

A full by-pass system is definitely NOT any kind of protection from hot starts.

a full bypass guides air around the engine, as well as providing a seperation between the engine and all of the bits in the fuselage, creating a clean install. i have also seen bypass's protect engines in the event of crashes. one that comes to mind was a planes plus F-86 that went in. in the crash this black "football" looking object squirted out of the wreckage and bounced about 30 feet down range. it was the turbine in the bypass and outside of a bit of grass, was fine.
