Spring is here!
Our field has a good crop of dandelions at the ends of our runways.
What effect do the seeds have if sucked into the turbine? I had a hot landing yesterday and overran the end of the runway, had to taxi out of a dandelion patch. Don't see any sign of them, but was wondering if they can do any harm. There's almost nothing to them and I would guess they just burn up. Soon the cottonwoods will be filling the air with their fluff. Any problem there? Anybody know? Thanks, |

Dandelions

Through my extensive contacts in the model jet industry, I was able to learn the results of some very secret tests made by a well known jet engine manufacturer. They showed that the ingestion of dandelion seeds actually INCREASES power by up to 23%, depending on the number seeds per second sucked into the engine. The dandelion seeds combine catalytically with the fuel/air mixture and add significant energy of combustion to the operation of the engine. The only down side is that there is a slight carbon buildup in the combustion chamber after the ingestion of 2,567,000 seeds. But this will give you a whole summer of flying thru seeds before you need to de-carbon the engine. I would say the extra power is worth it. |
