RE: F-18 on e-bay
I have found the F18 on ebay..... item number 3078059896
current price US $1,050,100.00 How many P-200's to make this fly!;)[:-] |
RE: F-18 on e-bay
just amazing!!!
and how much more to have it airworthy??? Can someone really buy it , rebuild it then fly it in the US?? is there no restrictions about flying a fast jet which is still in active duty? It is far different from a sabre or an albatross, can someone tell us about regulations? thanks Florent |
RE: F-18 on e-bay
The price for the jet is aways cheap compared to the hourly operating expense. The F/A 18 cost roughly $4000 an hour to operate.
It sure would look nice in the front yard! Chris |
RE: F-18 on e-bay
There is a company that sells F-16A's and F-18's. I'll try and find it.

RE: F-18 on e-bay
There was an article some time ago about a company that had an F-18 and and F-16 that they were restoring. I belive it was in Air & Space magazine. Probably teh same airframe. THing is, it'll be harder to get parts for this thing than it would be to get parts for an imported L-39 or Mig-29 for that matter. Foreign suppliers just want the cash. US suppliers have to keep the gov't happy. Even if there's now specific law against operating one of these, the govmt can still get in the way at many turns.
As an aside, there are 2 Mig-29's nearing flight status at a small airfield in corn-country Illinois. A bit of a shock the first time I rode past that hangar when the doors were open.... http://www.air-usa.com/ |

Your not even close!! A G5 is about 4 - 5k per hour.

RE: F-18 on e-bay
I emailed the seller 10 key questions regarding the airplane. Pretty simple things to find out and received no answer. This is either a fraud, or a piece of junk.
|
RE: F-18 on e-bay
I looked at the website that offers pics of the plane in pieces. Junk would aptly describe its condition[&:], note that you can buy it for 1 million in pieces or 9 million ready to fly. That is a huge desparity!

RE: F-18 on e-bay
The company that owns the F-18 have been trying to sell it for some time now, they used to have an F-16A along with other Jets that i would consider Junk status. Along with flying, My business is leasing and financing Corporate and Commerical Jets, I would not do business with the people that are selling it. And assuming they get it to flight status for $9 Million, thats there least of there problems, who ever buys it here and wants to fly it in the US, will have an interesing time with the FAA, trying to get a C of A, and another point try and get insurance for a private F-18....
Also look at item 2460961703 they are selling for $10million A Quote from that page " The flight will take place at a sanctioned model aircraft field. We are looking for co-sponsors for these record attempts. For your contribution, you will be allotted a space on the ship for your recognition. Contributions may include any services, equipment, or monies that assist in the record attempts. The first record attempts fit within the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) guidelines and no FAA approval will be necessary. After establishing this record we intends to take our 20 ft tall 390 cu ft of helium ship (with FAA approval) to a new overall altitude record for a lighter than air ship under control. The current record is held by the Japanese with a blimp shaped airship with no power or control at 26,000 feet" And the AMA have approved this ????? lol |
RE: F-18 on e-bay
You guys are hillarious. How many of those warbirds out there flying were bought from surplus all sparkily shiny new? Not one. If you have ever seen a restoration of a warbird it takes lots of time and money, using many birds to make a good one. The end product though will make you drool for hours. Just one example would be the private T-2 buckeye. Victoria air maintenance on Vancouver island did all the work over a number of years and they started with an airframe from an A&P school. The thing was beyond worn out and now it wins awards.
The warbird community is a very different hobby. Some people would look at you guys and say why would you put $15,000 into a piece of fibreglass and carbon - only to have it possibly crash? - It's just another hobby!;) |
RE: F-18 on e-bay
You guys are hillarious. From what I've read, when NASA needed a F-18 for experimental flying, they got one on a truck in siimilar shape. They rebuilt it and got it flying. The result was the HARV program. http://www.dfrc.nasa.gov/Research/HARV/index.html So, they might be able to sell it to someone in need of structure for maintenance training or something along those lines. |
RE: F-18 on e-bay
It is junk, unless you have ten million dollars to get it into flying shape. Of course there are people out there who can get this plane airworthy, but until then it is junk just like ths B-17s under 300 feet of ice in greenland.

RE: F-18 on e-bay
Then I guess Yellow Aircraft kits are junk as well? I mean, it's just a pile of parts...

RE: F-18 on e-bay
There is no comparison between a completely dissasembled full size F-18 and a RC jet kit. Nathan |
RE: F-18 on e-bay
As have I, sorry I just dont see the value. I have to admit I would be cool to see if the buyer acually gets it into the air for the ammount quoted. I am doubtful.
