turbine reverse thrust
Hi can anyone tell me first, what is reverse thrust and how does it work ?
Will rc turbines ever have reverse thrust added some day ? |

There are several ways to reverse thrust.
look at these pictures. You usualy just re-direct thrust to the sides and forward. |
RE: turbine reverse thrust
Reverse thrust will probably never appear on todays micro-turbine engines considering that thrust reversers are used on turbo-fan engines. They redirect the By-pass air from the fan set. Microturbines are turbo-jet engines that have no fan by-pass. Therefore if there was a thrust reverser it would look similar to the one on the UPS aircraft (in the post above) but one will probably never be made due to temperature limitations of model aircraft (heat transfer through such a small piece of metal into servos and such) and the high back pressure effect that the reverser would cause in the engine which would probably lead to severe damage.

Not entirely correct on the thrust reversers using only By-Pass air. On Gulfstream IV and Hawker 800 that I Fly, The thrust reversers are the "Clam Shell" reverser type. All of the exhaust, HP and LP air, is redirected by the reversers.
But I still do not know why the AMA does not allow Thrust Reversers Ron |

Ron is correct. There have probably are more "straight jet" (turbo-jet) aircraft equipped with thrust reversers out there. That is quickly changing due to noise regs that favor the turbo-fans though. Due to the heat involved, there are limitations on the use of the reversers with the turbo-jets. Each aircraft/engine has it's own set of rules and limitations. With the turbo-fans, one is more concerned with stirring-up debris and fodding the engine............ Tailwinds, John |
RE: turbine reverse thrust
It would sure look nice if an rc lockheed was going down the runway and after landing reverse thrust was used.
That would complete the realism, it wouldnt get better than that. I could see it now !! Well i guess after going down the runway and slowing down i gues the next thing to do is hold brakes and power up a little to get that sound ( simulating reverse thrust ( just kidding). |
