PAINT QUESTION

I clear coated my bobcat yesterday and noticed today that it looks like there are some spots where the clear didn't flow out or I put on to dry. Can I wet sand this down with like 1200 and apply another coat of clear?

Scott, Yes, you can do that, but be careful not to sand through the clear. If you do, it will show when you re-coat it. If you've got two or more existing coats of clear, those dry spots will most likely polish out. Sand lightly with the 1200 and then hand rub it with rubbing compound until the desired results are obtained. Good luck..........RS

While polishing works, I would say sand what you have flat, taking care not to hit the color, then respray with clear thinned 200% with reducer. You almost cannot screw that up.

Good luck.

I would add to Matt's suggestion about thinning the clear 200% (I finally worked up the guts to do this) that you should also add a moisture filter right before the gun in case those spots are the result of water in your air or if moisture isn't the issue you may want to adjust the pressure down, or the distance that you hold the gun from the work surface in case you are putting the paint on too dry. Clear is definitely the most demanding "color."

Also, see Jeremy's tutorial for tips on painting.

Not when you thin it 200%! Mist on a light coat, let it tack up and then nail it till it looks wet all over. The high amount of reducer makes it go on thinner and makes the clear flow better giving a much more uniform coat. Another tip you can use is while you are spraying if you get a spot that looks dry either shoot it with a littl more clear right then or spray a little straight reducer on it, often that lets it flow as well.

Thanks guys, I'll wet sand it down and reduce the mix 200%. Scott
