BVM F-16 for sale on RCU
 

Just curious, there is an BVM F-16 for sale on RCU - the guy is asking $1500 - kit only with nose gear. Is it worth that? what was the last cost before BVM discontuned the DF kit? What was the cost of the nose retract? BVM site has a price of $775 for full gear and door system for the F-16. Any thoughts

Just for comparison sake, before BVM discontinued the F-16, it was $1200 or so. LG, with wheels, tires, door cylinders, and brakes, is $1075, and d/f powerplant is close to $1000.

Understand you Jeff but this is just the kit and one nose gear - no mains, no wheels, no brakes, no powerplant, no door cylinder ----nothing but the kit and one nose gear. So I guess he's asking full price for the kit and $300 for the nose gear. Humm, seems way to steap. But who knows, somebody may think this is a great deal? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

I thik $1500 is way too much. I would rather pay the full price for YA's version + the scale retracts (only about $700+ $650). At least YA still has full service for this kits. BVM has some support, but not full.

I agree 100%

I had the new version YA F16 & it flew like a dream!! You have heard already I am sure that in the event of a deadstick in a BVM F16 you better drop the nose quick & head for the runway.The BVM F16 doesnt have the glidepath that the YA does being that its more full scale oriented.I had several deadsticks with my YA & it glided for long time -plenty of time to setup for a nice safe approach.;)

Now as FalconWings said you can get the YA new epoxy kit with scale gear/wheels & brakes,sidewinders,air cylinders & cockpit kit for 1400.00.. Now I am sorry but I am not gonna pay 1500.00 just for the BVM kit when I can get the whole shooting match for 1400.00 from YA & have the peace of mind that its gonna glide safely home if I Lose my engine.Just merely my opinion of course:D

Luckily my BVM .91 has never quit on my BVM F-16. But just the thought of it, considering how agressive I fly it, gives me the shakes. On my BVM Falcon , every time I do a 6 ft high 4 point roll I realize that if I had the engine quit, it is bye, bye!

That day will eventually come. Hopefully I will get 10-15 fligths more :D

Unfortantly "that day" comes for all of us-just a matter of time.This hobby can be truly brutal sometimes.We spend months & months building then head out for that madien not knowing what's in store.I spent approx. 5 months off & on finishing my YA F4 then she went in on the maiden-to this day I dont know what caused it.This was my first jet crash(knock on wood) We do our best to check & double check but sometimes there is something we miss that sends our babies to a early grave:eek:

F16's are great fliers -a very forgiving airframe but not as much so as a F15 or F18.The only thing I didnt like about my YA F16 was the "silouette" from straight on-you can lose orientation of them very easy straight on due to the thin stubby wings ;)

Id love to see some video of that. You should be able to save it if the engine dies there.

I may take you up on that video. I have a couple of friends with Camcorders, but I don't know if they are good filmers. My F-16 has a directional gyro on rudder/nose gear, so performing a 4 point roll totally axial is just a matter of playing with the ailerons and elevators-- as easy as it gets. As for performing them pretty low, it is THE ONLY WAY MAN! Anything higher than 10 ft is just not acceptbale.:D

Be aware that the life expectancy of my jet is no longer than 10-15 flights due to wear of landing gear, etc, so I have to make the best out of whatever is left. If I crash earlier than that, I want it to be because I was having fun with it, not because some servo failed etc....I want to be able to say, it died like a fighter doing it's thing.[8D]

Im not afraid to crash my jet, but I wish it doesn't happen, ever. LOL

I hear ya, I have never seen anyone dare to do it with a jet that low, most are 100' up :) If nothing else, send me a tape, Ill post it, Im good at doing vids.

The most time I ever spent building and painting a jet was a Y/A F-4 back in 1995.
I wanted everything perfect. The final result was a mirror finish, absolutly the best jet I ever had. I spent so much time setting it up and breaking in the engine. Everything was perfect.

On the maiden flight it rotated perfectly.
At the field I was at, when taking off to the south you have a highway, powerlines and tress about 1,000ft off the departure end.
As I made the initial turn out to the left, I thought all was good, but amazingly I misjudged how far from the trees I was and a tree branch reached out and hit the wing tip and elevator.

The F-4 must have hit every single branch on the way to the ground.
Result was about 1200 mirror finished confetti pieces scattering with the wind.

OK guys, judging from the feedback, the $1500 is way over price considering the minumal support from BVM, the fact that the BVM is more scale oriented which doesn't len itself to the aka "floating" get back home from a distance- situation. Thanks for all your input - steve

My favorite manouver, altough extremely simple, is coming in low and fast!! then when you hit close to the midpoint of the runway you bank right (or left) 75-90 deg and then pull it to a perfect tight turn figure 8. At first I was scared that the airplane would fall out of the turn, but not at all. The F-16 will handle it.After the manouver is completed, the jet has lost so much momentum that the "perfect" manouvering speed is attained. Once here, you can sllllooooooooowwww roll and afterwards nothing because speed is too low.

On my maiden flight (which was my first DF flight ever) I remembered the previuos owner telling me to fly the hell out of it. I.E. he insisted on me not to fly it slow while on the learning curve, he just said to takeoff and do whatever I wanted, and so I did. I guess 15+ years of flying helped me there because I flew it for the first time as if it would be the last.

I hope one day I can afford a JP4 and join the "big guys" circuit. The only problem is I am a humble guy.

Plenty of low rolls in this video:

Have never done rolls as low on any turbine F-16s. Number one because they are not smooth flyers. Number 2 becasue I had no respect for DFs, but I do for turbine jets.

Not that I can do rolls that low, I'm usually at what I call "space shuttle" height, but doing rolls that low with a ducted fan F-16 is an ENTIRELY different beast!
