bobcat Thrust angle
Hi all I'm just about to fly my bobcat this weekend and am still concerned about the thrust angle of the ram 500.
Bob's template is completely off, not even close. right now I have 0 incidence on the wing and 0 on the centerline of the Ram, does this sound right ?. Should the alunium bracket be parallel with the wing or raised slightly at the rear. Thanks Rcpete |

Pete,
The engine should have a little down thrust. I have only set up the XL's but each one of them has had plenty of down thrust. If it climbs when you increase to higher throttle settings you will know you need to add a couple of washers under the front mounting screws (or just adjust the engine in the mount) David Reid P.S. Good luck with it you will love the plane. Perhaps the most noticeable thing about your first takeoff will be how quickly it comes off the ground. |
BOBCAT Thrust angle
Hi ,also with 2400 mah. battery pac the cg. comes out half inch nose heavy,is that too much for the first flight.I don't really like a slow responsive airplane.
Thanks Rcpete |
Not a problem----
Rcpete,
If you ordered the mount for your Ram 500 you should end up with basically zero - zero. Alum bracket will be raised slightly at the rear. For the larger turbines the alum brackets end up flush with the top of the wing, which translates to considerable down thrust. I believe the only reason for the down thrust angle for the bigger turbines is too provide a little more margin for the heat blast created by the larger turbines. A margin to prevent frying the stabilizer. If you have the correct mount for your motor all will be OK. Actually if your turbine is the Ram 500 you need not worry either way, down thrust or Zero the Bob Cat is going to be fine. Good luck with your first flights, your going to love your Bob Cat-----everyone who flies one really gets hooked ------ me included. Lee H. DeMary AMA 36099 |

Put it on the CG and it will fly the best. Mine is set a little tail heavy now and is getting more and more fun every flight, snaps like a murff now!
