Differential Setup for Taileron
Jet Friends,
As for F-15,F-14,F16 which have no aileron, do they need differential setup on taileron? If any pilot has any experience for this setup, please educate us whether there is any basic aerodynamic principle for this type of fighters. In case of no differential setup, will that be seriously difficult to manuver the plane due to different amount throw of each stab? Jai Young Shim |

Hello.
On my Avonds F-15 and F-16 there I use 35 mm throw for elevator and 25 mm throw for taileron function. The manual states that there should be NO differential setup. They work fine. |

Jaui,
Say you are flying straight and level. You decide to turn right. The stabs act just like ailerons. Say you are in a slow right hand turn and you want to pulll nose up. The stabs right stab goes more leading edge down, the left stab reduces its leading edge up deflections |

Dear Billybaru and Stig,
Many thanks for your advice. I see no differential setup needed. Jai Young Shim |

Hello Jai
Ill agree with Stig, and Billybaru, I have had an Avonds, F-15 and the Skymaster F-15, Yellow F-18 and DCU / Jetmart F-14 all had tailerons and they did not have differential. Sorry about the F-14, I saw the video too bad, I give you credit for going foreward. I had the same thing happen to me with a all balsa F-18 ducted fan many years ago... It just did not get as high. Just a note the Jetmart f-14 required lots of throw in the elevons when the wings were out. Like 40 degrees or more. In level flight at speed the leading edges were around 1/8!QUOT! down! The fuselage produced so much lift at speed that it kept on pitching the nose up as you reached cruise. Watching the video it looked like I agree with most of the fliers it looked tail heavy. My friend and my Jetmart F-14's had the CG 1 inch to .5 inch ahead of the wing pivot and even this was nose heavy. Here are some pictures of My Friends F-14 2 X OS .91 (1999) |

Dear Duke CHung,
Many thanks for your kind sharing of experience!! It was great help to me to build 2nd Cat. My project is going well and is likely done in this fall. Jai Young Shim |
