Bob, This is a great idea. My first 2 D/F jets were a Regal Eagle and Blue Hornet and I built a Eagle for a friend. I've moved up to turbines now.

This is a copy of a separate email I just sent you but the subjetc line said "advice?" and on the off chance it gets deleted before it is read, here is a repeat:

I just recently purchased your Regal Eagle plans (from you) and want to build two examples: one with a Ramtec/K&B .82 and the other with a ByroJet/Rossi .81 combo. The plans show a tractor fan set up which should be no problem. However, the ByroJet setup seems more problematic. I know you used this combo in your earlier models. My questions are as follows: Since the fuselage seems rather flat, how do you fit the 6" fan - I assume it requires a hollow "top fairing?" Where does the fan itself fit? Finally, do you use any ducting at all with the Byro set-up? Thanks!!!!

Hello,
Yes the tractor should be no problem.
However Byron setup does require a hollow top and bottom fairing, I used to supply but 99% of modelers are told to use tractor.
So I redesigned the Regal Eagle.
You can Mount the fan in the fuse sides and sheet over and under, I have done this.
When I sell a new kit the instructions show how to do this, I think you should be ok to just sheet over the fan.
We sell top and bottom fairing but I don't think you need to spend the money to get it, A bit of balsa modeling skill and you have it made.
Thrust tube is needed in the Regal Eagle, We sold hornets without it but that was because of the taper in the fuse. This did caus some confusion (sorry).

Hi Bob - I bought a Regal Eagle in a Hobby Shop - it had been there for some time. My question is this: I have a Dynamax fan for a OS .91. There is no side view that really shows the location of the fan. i have played around with positioning and in one case, the fan seems to be about 3/8 - 1/2 " above the top of the fuse (this leaves space between the bottom sheeting. If I drop the fan down so that the top is flush, the the bottom of the fan will be in the airstream. Which is correct?

Hi,
I have had to redesign the regal Eagle several times because of fan and engine changes.
The last one is for the dynamax.
There is no bottom belly pan, fan sits on the bottom sheeting, leave about 1/16" for the thickness of the molded inlet. If you bought a kit for a Byron fan you will not have the inlet ducting ( sorry ) it is available and I would send it at cost + postage, If you need more help e-mail [email protected]

Hi Bob;
Another question(s) re the ByroJet/Rossi powered RE: Several of the sites here at rcuniverse have folks recommending that the ByroJet version include a large belly cheater hole; others are recommending no cheater hole for the RE (?). Is the latter possible without significant degradation in thrust? If no cheater hole, does it need special intake ducting or enlarged intakes? Finally, apparently you also recommended a "lay over " engine arrangement - any particular side (left or right?) Thanks! AL

Hi Al,
The selling feature of the Regal Eagle is that it does not need a cheeter hole.
Byron jets did have a large bottom cheeter hole.
The byron version does not need inlets.
The engine mounting you mention is what we old pattern flyers cal a sidewinder.
Engine is easier to start and generaly runs smoother and responds to up throttle much faster,also does not lean out loops.
