Sterner Engineering Vampire
Hi Guy's
I'm wondering if anybody has seen the plans or an aircraft made from the plans. The 1/5 scale would be right up my alley ! At 8ft it has presence but isn't stupid big. A beautiful set of landing gear and laser cut parts are available for it as well. Maybe I should get at least one project completed before I start on another but I'm sure a lot of you out there know what it's like !! |
Vampire
Seing what Kerry Sterner normally builds I think the Vampire will make a great project.
I have seen a lot of pictures of his 1/4 scale Vampire during the construction phase and it looks great. I think the 1/4 scale is just an enlarged 1/5 scale version, so it should be a no brainer. John C |
Pictures?
Are the pics posted somewhere ? I did a Google search and came up with one picture.

Marc,

John,
How do you like the 1011 ? Air Canada was just phasing them out as I got hired. Guys said that they loved it ! Tell me you have a PCM Tristar ! If not, you need one ! |
Sterner Engineering Vampire
Marc,
I have a PCM TriStar. It is a great model. Flies like a trainer and looks very impressive in the air. Look in my gallery below for pictures of it. JetCat P-80 power and 26 Lbs. |
?
we are supposed to test fly one of these today, any tips?

L-1011
Matt,
The plane flies like a trainer, but it is a clean air frame so it builds up speed fast. Chop the trottle after take off and cruise around at about 1/4 throttle. The TriStar will fly extremely slow with first position flaps (About 80 Mph). Do not attempt to fly it like your Bandit. :-) It is a scale airliner, not a rocketship. Keep the speed below 140 an you will be fine. Call me at 561 346 8187 if you need more info |
KERRY STERNER'S VAMPIRE
Hi,
I had the opportunity to view a set of plans of the 96" Vampire plans of Kerry Sterner which my friend bought from him. All I can say is that they were just fantastic. Top quality if I may add. By the way, the Vampire plan refers to the single seater version and if one buys the WARPAINT book on the plane one has an array of color schemes. Moreover if one wishes to extend the nose of the plane I dont think it will be difficult to do so in order to make it of the SWISS AIR FORCE. Again, a wonderful plane and a wonderfull plan. Vampire
Marc,
I have seen his 1/5 scale Vampire fly and also have a set of plans. Wonderful looking aircraft and it appeared to have excellent flight characteristics. Kerry's plans are exceptional and all of his planes are well engineered. Bill |

Is someone going to make a fiberglass fuselage in the near future for this kit?

Hi Marc,
Looking forward to your e-mail to which I will send some additional info. The 1/5th (96") is the most popular size, the 1/4 sacle @ 120" w.s. is a bit much for folks to get around even with the outboard wing panels being removable. (No problem with a full size pickup) The 1/5th is designed for 17-23# turbines. At Top Gun 98 & 99, we carried 74 oz. of fuel. I completed the 8 min. round which includes starting, taxing, T.O. thru Landing and still had nearly 20 oz. of fuel remaining. The point is that the Vampire truley flys on its wing not the tailpipe. I think of the Vampire as a Turbine powered Cub. It is an absolulty no brainer to fly and is outsatnding as a first time jet trainer and performs beautifuly off short grass fields as it will rotate in 100-125' w/ 18# turbine @ 27# T.O. weight. The other reason that the 1/5th is so popular is that we now offer Laser cut wood semi-kits (No sheeting, Stringers or Blocks) I aslo now have the F/G 100 gal. wing tanks in 1/5th and 1/4. Looking forward to your e-mail. And thanks to all the folks that posted the kind words about my plan sets. It is appreciated. :) Jchris, I hope all has worked out well for you. Best regards. Hi Kerry,
It was good chatting with you last night ! I sent some pics to [email protected] . I'll be firing the cash at you today. Looking forward to seeing these nice plans. Is that the colour scheme you were telling me about. Looks great ! I did some searching around for interesting Canadian schemes but most are pretty boring. This one looks kind of interesting though.. |
Canadian Vampire Scheme
Marc:
Yes the picture I have posted is the paint scheme of my 1/4 scale Vampire. I have seen your scheme in the Warpaint book No. 27 we spoke of. Will get back to you this evening. Regards. Kerry |
Vamp
Kerry,
have you flown that big thing yet? Going to be at Scale jets International with it? |
Sterner Engineering Vampire
If anyone got the skills to make a fiberglass fuse for this kit put me on the list for one.

Scale Jets International / Vampire
Hi John,
I have not yet flown it, but will do so very soon and will send pictures. Should my available vaction time hold up, I would like to make the S.J.I. event as I'm sure it will be well done as all Frank's events are. As for F/G fuselage, Mark Frankel has indicated that he is interested in the production of the 1/4 Scale Vampire in F/G. Once my 1/4 has flown he will likely put together a game plan to that end. Regards. Kerry J. Sterner SIMJET of Pennsylvania. |
