RX voltage regulator get hot?
 

Hi, I currently using 5 cells receiver pack with a current regulator. When I final ballance my Hotspot tonight during final adjustments on the controls throw, my hand brush by the regulator and that thing is hot....? I thought it should only :confused: be warmed to touch. Just wonder if anyone out there have experienced with this. Thanks in advance.

Yes they get hot. The manufactuers of the IC's used on those voltage regulators all recommend the use of heat sinks on those devices, yet none of the hobby voltage regulator manufactuers have included a heat sink.

I use a heat sink on my regulators. Go down to Radio Shack, and buy a heat shink, and attach it to the IC.

Also, you may want to check the current drain in the overall system. Heat means current flow. You may have servos binding drawing extra current.

What regulator are you using? If it is the Mini Hobby, let me know. They mention heating in the instructions. If you don't have the instructions I can email you the info...

Hi Kevin and Six shooter, Sorry that I get back to you late reply. I have been busy test fly both of my airplanes for the last few days at our local jet meets. What happens was my new Hotspots air brakes servo stalled in close position. Thanks to Bob Wilcox (JetCat USA) and Tony Frackowiak found out the problem. What gave indication was everytime we close the airbrake and ready for taxi for takeoff, the P120 keep shut down and indicate power failure on the GSU. Both of my Hotspot and Yellow F4/Ram500 flies very nicely. The voltage regulator I use is from Cermark.
