Aeropoxy substitute
 

...there was a post about a substitute for Aeropoxy. Can someone tell me what that was, and where they got it. I live in Southern Cal, so hopefully I can buy at a local store of some sort,

If you are refering to Aeropoxy epoxy, manufactured by PTM&W industries, Aircraft Spruce http://www.aircraftspruce.com/index.php has it. They have a warehouse/store in Corona California. They deal mostly in parts and accessories for homebuilt aircraft. They also carry other types of aircraft quality epoxy. If this is not the Aeropoxy you are refering to, nevermind.... :cool:

The Aeropoxy from Aircraft Spruce is an entirely different product.
It is a laminating resin for doing wet layups, but not worth a darn for assembling the bulkheads and frames into your jet.
Use the product from BVM, and you'll have the right material. You will also have support from BVM if/when you need it.

Kevin_w is right on the mark with the hysol9462. Is the exact same stuff that BVM named Aeropoxy. Depending on where you get it and how much you buy you can get if for substantially less than what BV sells it for. I get mine from a company here in FL called Dexter. I bought a box of 10 for 98.00 which is about a savings of 40.00 dollars if you were to get the same amount from BVM.

I've been using one of the other Hysol products with very good success.

McMaster-Carr (www.McMaster.com) has the applicator gun for $20, 6" mixer nozzles, 12 for $9 and about 12-15 Hysol products at around $8.25 each (50 ml). For about $80-85 delivered, I got the gun, nozzles and 6 cartridges.

I've been using E-20NS, a non-sagging white epoxy (they say light tan) which firms up nicely in 20-30 minutes and sets hard in about 2 hours. It's like a rock, maybe harder than you might like. This particular one is called a metal mender but it holds tough on everything. There are others with other working times. The number is the set time and McMaster has some descriptive data. Search on Loctite or epoxy. They don't seem to carry the 9xxx products.

I used just less than one cartridge doing the entire interior structure on a Top Cat including the nosegear formers.
