Thiefs strike again

HI all, well I lived in the the country for 30 years and never had a problem with thief's until I moved to a small town. In the past two weeks both of my airplane trailers where entered. One through the window and the other the lock was cut, Both trailers where empty so lucky for me I am not at a loss so far but my son lost his 10 speed bike.
The reason for this tread is to get some advice on a security system for my Van and trailer ,since a go to a lot of Jet rallys I would feel a lot better when I'm in a Hotel kowning my van was safe.
What do you guys use, brand names, options, what should i look for.
Thanks Rcpete

Pete,

I use Smith &Wesson, great deterent stops theives dead in their tracks. A thief that thinks he is going to get shot won't come around. I had one neighbour about 15 years ago attempt to break into my shop, he got two rounds of #4 duck loads in the @$$ and never came back! Have not had a problem since then.

A couple of claymores rigged with a trip trigger will stop them in their tracks, can show you how to do it!!!!!!;)[8D][>:]

A good car alarm would do the trick. You can easily hook up a relay to the alarm to flash the clearance lights and/ or turn on an outside set of loading lights to see that it is your trailer that's been tampered with. There are lots of options, be creative. Maybe some motion lights if you keep it close to a power source where it's stored, let a pit bull use it as a dog house when not in use, a camera system is a good way to put them behind bars instead of just running them off to rip someone else off. If all else fails, the shotgun always works. [8D]

While I agree with you with my whole heart DavidR.........in some most states in America and for sure in Canada you would be the one to go to jail for peppering a thief's behind with duck shot.

It's really annoying when you know someone's been rooting round your property.[:@]
Why don't you get some rattle snakes and scorpions and put them in your trailer.
Next time the thief strikes he's in for some entertainment.:D

I love you guys!
I just wish we were able to do these things in the UK.
Unfortunately in England, a guy can break into YOUR house and if you hurt him he can DO you!
Yes it is completely mad, we had a case recently where 2 guys broke into a farm house. The ownere had a shotgun and blasted both. 1 Died and the other lived. The owner of the house went to prison and the one who lived sued the owner!

Years ago you used to put broken glass on the top of walls to prevent people getting over, now you are not allowed to. If the thief hurts himself you will get done!

MAD MAD MAD [sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

RC, k

1. get a time lapes video camera to watch the trailer if this is happening at home and try and catch the thief which is the root of the problem.

2. trip to Radio shack or a car store and in stall alarm system with a time reset feature to save the battery, a barrel key lock, and a place in the trailer to store the battery for protection, also use conduent pipe to protect your wiring from getting cut by the thief. Also rig some kind of light on the outside to go off when the alarm is sounded to draw attention.

3. install a bigger tougher lock( you are only safe as your lock so don't go cheap, a thief is looking to get in quick as they can with no attention to them doing so.

Good luck

Pete, after I got cleaned out a year and half ago, I was in the same boat you are considering different options for security. I ended up getting locks made by American Lock http://www.americanlock.com/ They are the shackleless padlocks model 2000 or 2500. They look like large hockey pucks and are VERY high security. It would be easier to cut through the side of the trailer than to try and cut these. I also moved my trailer right next to the house just in case someone was stupid enough to try. The amount of noise it would make would wake you, the neighbors and the dead. :D My trailer doesn't have a window so you would have to do something different there. I haven't had any problems since. Good luck and give American a look. They also offer many other locks.

he only got one, cos we were talking for about 10 mins!! then he said 'if you don't give me yr phone at the count of three, u aint leaving here' he said 1-2-3, then went into my mates pocket, and tried to get the phone, after about 30 sec of struggeling he got away with it, dam public didnt do sh@t. we saw police ahead, they took us 2 the station, got asked questions for 2 hours. THAT ***** RUINED OUR WHOLE NIGHT, so much for getting pissed!!!

Cheers

In Texas I beleive the law's like:
1) after dark, anyone stealing something significant (like a car) and you have a reasonable expectation not to get it back, you can use deadly force
2) if someone breaks into your domicile and you are "trapped" or fear for your life, you can use deadly force
3) you can carry a concealed handgun (lisenced) and there are a whole host of rules when and how to use it, of course, anytime.

Net result: violent crime is down in Texas (especially after the concealed handgun law)- go figure???

HI all, I think I will be installing a simple security system for my Van and trailer, one that would energize a siren if someone where to touch it or move it. Anyone have good luck with their system and recommend it. I have no idea whats out their and don"t want a system that has too many whistles and bells that I will never use.
Thanks Rcpete

If you have doors/windows on only 2 sides Easiest to park the trailer against a 2 walls to block people from entering the trailer w/o moving it to clear the sides of a fence/wall/building...and if nothing is in it to begin with keep it unlocked with a "THANKS FOR SHOPPING YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD" sign in it so he or she knows you are Watching...I still think claymoores or a big 12 guage w/ buckshot is better...hehehe I live and love TEXAS

There are FarganRatBastages all around- This is what I found (or sadly didnt find) this morning when I went to my ultralight hangar. Big nothing where there used to be aRotax 503 DCDI with an E gearbox (about $5K). At least the thief was polite and left the padlock and chain setting on the wing. I guess I should be thankful that he just didnt hawksaw off the whole nose. Bastage got his moneys worth out of his bold cutters though. Scott
