RE: UPS strikes again
With a freight company like this one, who needs the US Marines?
We need to send some UPS guys to Iraq, pronto!! |
RE: UPS strikes again
FWIW, make sure you take GOOD PICTURES of your package/packing if you have to send it UPS. Unfortunately, it was not done with this transaction, and we have finger ponting going on.
Stay tuned for detailed information with regards to this transaction. ....ghost_rider......out.... |
RE: UPS strikes again
I am sure that they are saying that it was not packed correctly, and if that is how it was shipped as shown in the pics they are right. Ben you are so correct in saying to take pics before the box is closed up. I always do and have yet to have a problem once I show the pics to the right person.

RE: UPS strikes again
I'm assuming that you've removed most of the packing material in the photos, but to be honest, I don't think I would have ever trusted ANY shipping company to send a package like that. You either have to pack all of the stuff on the inside rigidly so that it can not touch the outside edges - and has 2-3" of clearance, or COMPLETELY fill the box with packing material. A combination of the two techniques inside a box that can not be crushed by anything other than driving a car across it is best...
Remember the old Samsonite luggage commercial with the gorilla? That's what you have to pack for with ANY shipping company - period. Bob |
RE: UPS strikes again
Man Ghost,
I'm sorry about that but I hate to tell you that, that's a *****ty packing Job if you ask me man. I wish you lots of luck dealing with UPS. If the person that sent you that Jet packed it like that, I would definetly take it up with him first. Johnny Hernandez |
RE: UPS strikes again
Lots of luck with UPS!
We sent a turbine to be tuned before installing it on the King Cat on the trip back UPS used it as a football! It was packed in bubble wrap, then a 1/8” shipping tube with caps on each end than that was placed in foam worms in another box. They hit is so hard the glow plug pushed through the shipping tube. UPS had the never to say it wasn’t packaged well and to ad insult to injury they said we could not make the claim the shipper had to. They did not consider it our property, go figure. They refused the claim and would not pay! Oh buy the way it better have been insured for a bunch of money or they won’t pay either Dawn |
RE: UPS strikes again
I'd NEVER trust a jet to a cardboard box and some crumpled up paper.
If you're asking me.......that was a crappy packing job and you're asking for trouble. |
RE: UPS strikes again
I agree ghost-rider, UPS employees should be filling water glasses at Denny's
Out of my last ten orders hoem delivered, two of them were UPS. One of the boxes was crushed and the other was delivered to a city north of me. I did finally get that box. UPS went back and picked it up and five days later I actually got it. Ever since then I try to make it a point to have FEDEX deliver. I have never had a problem with FEDEX. Wayne |
RE: UPS strikes again
I personally let everyone know how I feel as often as I can:
I HATE BROWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
RE: UPS strikes again
I know what you mean....I WORK FOR FedEx!!!!!
|
RE: UPS strikes again
i hate brown too, however that is another story. to resolve damage issues with ups, it is quite easy, especially in the case of the damged jetcat. you just contact your ups regional office. ask for the registered authorized agent in that county, it is required by law to provide you with that persons name, then you sue them in small claims court, listing ups and the authorized agents name. that will be the person representing ups before a judge in small claims court. it is cheap and it usually never sees the light of day in a courtroom. it worked for me twice in the past 10 years. once a box was crushed, and i mean flat and the product was destroyed. ups said it was insufficiently packed, i asked for their guidlines to withstand a forklift running over it so i could prevent the same problem in the future. the box had tire marks right on it. needless to say, i filed suit and within a week of ups being served i had my check in hand. the other dispute was even better. i shipped a product, the buyer refused it and it was cod. the package came back i noticed it had been tampered with, and in front of my ups driver i opened the package to find 2 bricks. ups, again tried not to pay up, however, this one did not take as much effort to collect on. i use fed ex for small packages and forward air for the big ones and never have had a single problem. all i am saying is be a pain in their rearend if you are in the right, and when ups said the shipper had to file, like in the case of the jetcat, that is not true since it was your property, you have the right to file the claim and dont let them bluff you so easily. sometimes you just have to be a pr** to get action. good luck, barry

RE: UPS strikes again
wow that sucks. I know they did me like that also.
last year, I received my PCM 109 from Pat........crushed by UPS. I opened the large box, and low and be-hold, a crushed fuse. Pat had made this thing bullet proof, so we thought, until the UPS crusher guys sat something VERY heavy on it! I got a new fuse from Pat, and to this day, dont know if he ever got compensated from those fools or not? good luck with your fight with them |
RE: UPS strikes again
UPS's #1 story is ...ok maybe #2 is that a bigger heaver package fell on your package , we cannot be held liable for an act of god.. Trust me guys I worked for UPS for 3 months and they do throw, kick and toss around your packages. I unfortunately dropped one , one time and was kinda moving it to the truck by kicking it.. Broke my foot, the package contents.. Got fired.. and yet UPS didnt have to pay the insurance value for it.. Go with FED EX or DHL.. They atleast take care of your packages.. And no im not working for either of them learned my lesson extreamly well..No more kicking packages for me..

RE: UPS strikes again
You are the victim of an extremely poor packaging job....I doubt UPS (or anyone for that matter) would accept any liability for what is documented in those photos
-used carton (note the 3 different types of tape on the outside) -the lid, and possibly the box has been poorly spliced together - the rolls of plastic and paper in side that are supposed to serve as packing, are totally insufficient for the jet they are supposed to protect. - the jet is not cradled so that it is at least 4" away from the inner carton surfaces - the volume of packing is insufficient to support the carton and prevent any air voids -there are no internal bulkheads to support the ends. lid, and sides from the weight of other boxes that are going to be piled on top of it. - there is no shock absorbing media to protect against drops and bumps and finally, who would ship a jet with the whip antenna still attached ? Sorry your jet got broke, but you will need to go back to the shipper on this one... The reality is that a well packed model should survive a drop from a tailgate, and you should be able to stand on it without damaging the contents - no matter who your carrier of choice is. There is no such thing as too much or too strong ! |
RE: UPS strikes again
I stopped using UPS at my biz 2yrs ago and went with Airborne express, now DHL. I am glad DHL is putting the heat on UPS, they need to get their butt kicked for once.

RE: UPS strikes again
Shipping a jet in a cardboard box is just a bad idea. A few years ago I shipped an F-86 to Florida Jets so I could fly down and pick up the plane there. I made crate out of 3/8 ply and reinforced it internally with a whole bunch of 2x2s. I think there were like 200 screws in the crate when I was done. The plane was bedded on a thick pad of foam and tied down with bungee cords. The crate weighed a ton, but when I picked it up in Orlando, the plane was fine even though there were TIRE marks and footprints all over it. You just need to make the crate tough enough to withstand the abuse it is going to get.

RE: UPS strikes again
UPS smashed a box I sent about 10 years ago. I filed and a rep came to our house to view the package. He actually suggested that I file a warranty claim with the manufacturer of the item, and he said it in front of my wife. I had to perservere until the regional manager called me. I got my claim paid at that point, probably because I had a witness to the fraud suggestion. Bottom line- UPS will bluff, stonewall, and resort to low tactics to avoid their responsibility. This is where you have to turn into an #$$h0le to get justice out of them. I hate UPS for being so dishonest.

RE: UPS strikes again
UPS= [:'(]
I too have had several negative encounters with UPS so this is of no surprise to me at all!!.Just in the last 2 years I have had 1 jet & 2 package for my business get either destroyed or badly damaged.Everytime UPS tries to deny it being their fault or responsibilty. On the jet kit(TGA F15) I had to spend literally 2 weeks on the phone & in person at the local UPS plant to rectify them paying on the claim. They swore up & down that the jet was not sufficently packed. For cris sake there was enough peanut foam in the box to fill a king size bed! I told them that all the packing in the world wont help if your employees dont have enough common sense to be careful & not drive a forklift thru the side of the box!! I expressed to the head manager that it doesnt take a rocket scientist to clearly see that there is a gapping 8 inch hole in the box from what appeared to be a forklift.Well all the ranting & time spent still didnt go anywhere, so to make a long story short 2 out of the 3 damage claims I had to file required getting my lawyer involved. It is amazing as all hell how quickly a check appears in yuor mailbox when you threaten lawyers & wavy 10 on your side against them. I no longer use UPS for anything -personally or with my business. They are awful to put it mildly!! I use fed ex,post office & dhl/airborne express for everything now with great results.I havent had a single problem at all with these guys.If UPS does not straighten their act they are gonna start losing accounts left & right. They lost my acct and I typical get 5-10 deliveries a week with my business,in addition I know of atleast 10 people -customers & friends whom have stopped using UPS as well cause of very similar problems as mine .Fed ex,US postal & dhl all the way baby Steve |
