How much smoke can you carry in a Kingcat and where do you put the tank or tanks?

Do a search on this and you will see where I came up with a one liter (32 ounce) tank that neatly nestles between the two main tanks....I floated a trial balloon to see if there was a market for my system. The reception was just OK....Not too many guys interested in a smoke system for the KingCat. My tank worked in conjunction with Tam's smoke system. If I can find the floppy I'll post some pics, or else you can do a search under my name. The title of my thread was: KingCat Owners----I've got an idea....

A Sullivan 32oz tank fits easily behind the main fuselage bulkhead (behind the main tanks). At first this looks like it might cause an aft cg issue but in fact this location is very close to the cg. I have been using this setup with the TAM smoke system and it works great. Good for about 3 or 4 minutes of thick smoke. Some guys add a small header tank which you can put up front or even in the wing root but I haven't found that necessary.

I have heard that Gary Mueller (sp?) makes a 50oz custom tank that also fits in this area. That would probably be ideal.

My builder put an oil container (quart) in between the two main tanks.........perfect

I put my smoke pump thru the bulkhead opening behind the tanks. It is on top of the main spar.
I removed the 16oz center tank and replaced it with a 50oz kevlar smoke tank made by Gary Mueller.

Can anyone help? I am wondering if having a common vent (fuel and smoke)is a problem... having them join just prior to exiting the bottom of the fuselage. I am thinking of just adding a T right before the exit. just wondering if I could get any serious back-up or fuel-kero, kero-fuel blending that could lead to problems......smoke out the turbine or fire out the nozzles....lol

If you use an overflow tank when you fill jet fuel or use it as a taxi tank, you can't "T" them together. Just be safe and use a separate vent for smoke.

60 oz. here. I have a 40 oz. Dubro way back there, then a 20 oz. Dubro inbetween the mains. The 16 oz boat style tank still fits under the 20 oz. Just use the BVM Aluminum stopper hardware and the proper rubber plugs. I mounted my Tam pump on top of the former that holds the main tanks in place.

Yeah it feels like an oil tanker on take off, but its gone before you know it.

lol...you should see us carrying 240 oz on take-off ......thank god for 45 lbs of thrust.....but as you said she gets light quick....if you ever had to land right after take - off ....id have to call " scotty" and git more power for the elevators

Thanks for the thoughts. I have fit my Dubro 40oz behind the main spar and will mount the Tamjets smoke pump between the mains on the transverse tank support. Looking forward to trying this out. Anyone had to rebalance with 40oz just behind the main spar with a P120 and standard cockpit with Duralites?
