Question on Steering pull pull cables

The little crimp piece that slips over the pull pull steering cables.

I've seen different crimp pieces from time to time on different jets. Is there a place that sells this item in bulk (like over 20) or simply sells this piece only?

My LHS does not.

Any place that sells fishing tackle.

Sean, if you're talking about the small metal tubes(?) then I just buy a length of the metal tubing and cut it into whichever length I want by 'rolling' it with a scalpel blade as and when I need it.

Mark

Ya, the metal tubes, I didn't think about fishing tackle, thanks!

Mark, what metal tube are you using? Like a small diameter brass?

I have yet to go into a Wal-mart that doesn't have 'em in the fishing section. That's Florida though. Your mileage may vary.

Hi Sean

I've used a small diameter copper tube for steering cable crimps. Same material that's in a Sulivan pull-pull set.

Same here, either brass or copper tubing and i cut it just like Mark said by "rolling" the exacto.

RE: Question on Steering pull pull cables

Whichever one you use Sean, copper tube or steel leader crimps, if you pull the end thru the tube twice before crimping, rather than just once like with a bolo tie, it will never slip.....

I went to Walmart and they didn't have Jack, but they thought Academy might have it. Will try there this weekend. But thanks guys.

DuBro has the crimp tubing sold alone .. around a dozen pieces in a pack .. they also have the 1" long 44 rod with the hole for the wire in it available alone (if you want a clevise ont he end of the wire)

You don't want to use that 4-40 rod with the hole for the cable, whatever they actually call it. The hole drilled thru it for the cable has a sharp edge that will cut into the cable over time. Better to use 4-40 eye bolts to convert to clevises. Those are also available thru LHS or mail order.

RE: Question on Steering pull pull cables

Sean,

The pull pull cable I use has a very thin plastic coating over it. Another tip that works well with this sort of cable is, once crimped, heat up the crimp tube so that the plastic coating on the cables 'melts' and 'welds' to the other cable next to it.

Rgds,
Mark

RE: Question on Steering pull pull cables

I normally buy a 4/40 size pull pull kit and use that cable for my steering.
