The first AV8Rs may ship as early as next week and certainly by the following week. If you've never seen the model there are pics and some stats on my site at www.flypcm.com
This weekend I will build the first kit to proof the parts and begin to post more pictures of the model on my site. As far as size goes, this is not a small model by any standards as it is bigger than most sport models that fly with the bigger engines.

Okay guys, here is a photo of the AV8R kit contents. As you can see you get a set of foam main wings as well as foam core tail surfaces. All of the wood is laser cut with some CNC routing. The complete landing gear system with tires and wheels is included as are wheel pants for the fixed main gear, you even get all the wheel collars as well. High quality wood and all of the hardware to make the correct control runs is included
The kit includes flaps that operate from a single servo or you can build without flaps if you choose. All of the control surfaces are precut leaving you with a kit that can build extremely fast. Not shown in the photo below is various hardware and wood packages and materials.

A bigger version would be awesome, maybe with full retracts.

Pat,

It looks very good. Will you be attending any jet events soon where we can see the thing fly?. I read a great article in RC Report about your plane. Seems like the author liked it a lot.

From the beginning this model was designed to fulfill two specific requirements. The first of these was have a model that is very inexpensive and capable of being built quickly using basic skills and materials. Secondly it was to have a flight envelope that would allow it to be a turbine trainer as well as a great sport model.
By having a model that is so easy to build and is as uncomplicated as the AV8R is, a new or low time jet modeler will have greater confidence from the beginning and get much more flight time on this model.
But I can tell you for sure that even the most experienced jet jocks can have a blast with this thing. It is so fun that you just don't want to land - ever.

So yes JohnVH I have flown this model without power on three occasions because I ran it out of fuel. It glides great. In fact the second and third time it was no accident, I just didn't care when the engine stopped, I stayed within a position that would allow me to get back to the field and flew it dry.
At this time I have no video of the model. The next event I will be attending is at the end of this month in Ocala FL. If they will let me, I will fly the AV8R there.

I defiantly plan on attending Superman this fall. I will have both TriStar and AV8R kits on hand though I don’t know how many. OK JohnVH - Floats? Do we really need a turbine powered, aerobatic jet trainer - on floats? I’ll get right on that (smiley face thing here).

Seriously though, as you would expect from the layout of AV8R, it has similar aerobatic qualities of a 60-size sport pattern model. Outside of most 3-D stuff, aerobatics are only limited by the pilot’s ability.

Pat,

Do you have a European distributor?? I think your plane is just what the turbine market needs. I just got a PST 600 turbine and the thing runs perfect. I'd like to build an AV8R for that engine. With the dollar being equal to the Euro I am sure you will sell many kits in Europe.

There was a thread on here a while back about how you can spray water into a turbine while running to clean it or something like that - if you fly one on floats, at least you may have the cleanest engine going!

The AV8R was designed for one of the 12 pound thrust engines such as a RAM 500 and so on. The bigger (and heavier) engines would cause you to need considerable nose weight. The thrust plume from one of the bigger engines is wider which would begin to interfere with the airframe necessitating the need to move the engine further to the rear to clear the airframe. This would in turn only demand greater nose weight leaving the model overweight which would ruin some of the characteristics for which the model is designed. For this reason I would suggest you not install the Mercury on AV8R.

i have a j 50 bee turbine is smaller than the ram 500 and has
a Little more power, is made in Mexico by Felipe nieto
he sells this engine in europe by artes jets, i also have a ram 500
i tried both and i go for the jg 50 bee for the weight
and the power il post a pic of my av8r when is finished
now I'm flying it without markings and decals joust is yellow
