Skymaster Gripen Almost there

1 Attachment(s)
I've Had quite a few PM's/Emails asking me how I was progressing with the Gripen and when it was going to fly. I did recieve the Gripen from Skymaster two weeks ago, been a bit slow getting it together.... Sorry guys, been quite busy with Dreamworks. It is almost ready to fly, expect to maiden on sunday with full report of throws, CG and performance. Will have video rolling as well.... In the mean time here's a few install shots....

Interesting you chose to install the ducting Todd,

After speaking with Eric from AirPac, i opted not to bother on mine and put a smoke container there instead .. According to Eric, the internal drag (which i though would be a huge issue) was inconsequential, and that the ducting made little if no diference ...

Which engine will you be using ? I am curious as to how it will befrorm ...

Video would be awesome and best of wishes to you on your maiden flight !! [8D]

Good job on instalation Todd!
Nice and tidy, just the way I like it my self[sm=thumbup.gif]

The sport scheme looks very good on the Gripen...

Beautiful installation, Todd. A detail-oriented builder after my own heart.

What are you using for the carbon fiber on the trays?

Hi Todd,

Great looking bird. Know you will have many happy hours flying the Skymaster Gripen.

Just one concern out of personal experiences:

Carbon fibre and RC equipment do not go hand in hand. I do not know where your receiver and antenna is located but keep it very clear from carbon fibre and ecu eqipment!

Do not want to see you damaging your Gripen.

Happy landings!

Thanks guys.... Been a bit of a rush job.
Woj--- Thought about eliminating the intake but.... There where two reasons for me keeping it. First, since I am doing an evaluation of the plane for skymaster/airpac I decided it would be best to put everything in as supplied, second.... Some had reported it was difficult to find room for everything. Although the Gripen is not quite as "Roomy" as the rest of the Skymaster line, I did not have any trouble finding a spot for all the required components.
Dan--- Got two things going on here with "Carbon" :D First, since I plan to be a bit rough on the plane through the evaluation phase the gear mounts have been laminated with 3mm carbon plate. Probably something I would have done regardless. I'm usually overkill in these areas.
The radio tray, air gauge/fill valve tray and rear duct support seen in the pictures are made from Faux carbon ABS laminate. This is a plastic I sell on Dreamworks that has the appearance of carbon without the expense or weight. It is approx 1/16" thick, weight gain is negligible. Provides a nice finish and is very easy to work with.

Got a little trivia for you guys. In my rush, I forgot to make an important connection which you should be able to figure out from the pictures. First person to identify it will get a free tube of Hysol! Can you figure it out?

No linkages between your servos and the valves.

Well, I don't see any linkages to your brake/gear servos... I also don't see the data cable connection to the interface card.

RE: Skymaster Gripen Almost there

Ignore the front tray, this is not completed. The "Missing Link" is in Engine Bay (what would normally be the engine bay ;))

Data cable is connected!

Not sure if the pictures show everything but I do not see a fuel pump or fuel valve.

No propane fill connection

Well, I see the fuel pump, but I can't make out any connections to it.

What is that clear fuel line running out of the gear well, its not hooked up.

It looks like the IO board is not connected.
