Walston retrieval system
 

Has anyone used the Walston system in a turbine powered model? Many of us fly over some pretty bad terrain and yet I am not aware of anyone using the system. Is there a reason why? Interference?

I don't know about interference with our RC equipment but I do know from using the sytem in high powered rockets that signal bleeds over into other RF equipment like FM radios and such. Walston sure puts out a great product though. One time the recoverey system failed in my rocket, the rocket was completely destroyed but the Walston kept on beeping!

Mark,
I have been using the Walston system for about three years now. We have used them with PCM and PPM without any problems. Just to see if there would be any interference I attached mine right next to my FM receiver in a prop aircraft without any problems. We have used it in our jets here in Hawaii and we were also using it with all the Skymaster jets at Superman. It works great as I have found aircraft buried in the swamp that I could not see even though I was almost standing on the aircraft. We have also used it on helicopters.

Thanks! I think I will buy the receiver and take orders from all of the local pilots for transmitters. Are you sharing the transmitters or are you simply putting one in each plane?

The system I bought is capable of 16 different channels and there are even better systems than that. We shared the cost of the receiver and every pilot purchases their own transmitter. This way the pilots are responsible for their own receiver. I'm restricting the number to 16 pilots but you could have pilots share the channels. Most pilots purchase one transmitter and move it from aircraft to aircraft. To date we have recovered 5 lost aircraft. The recoveries are more than sufficient to pay for the cost of the Walston system. If you fly around a swamp or other areas that are difficult to locate your aircraft you won't regret purchasing this system.
