Jetcat glow plug problem
What am I doing wrong?
I am trying to set up my second hand P80 and I blew the glowplug. I got another one, teased out the coils and tested it and all was fine. I wanted to check the ECU plug voltage was good so I attached the plug to the engine and touched the body of the pug on the old one that was still in place. (First plug was OS A3, second was a Model Technics Firepower F6) The new one glowed extremely bright orange and blew. I got another plug and did the same but this time I dialled the ECU plug voltage down to 1.5V. The same happened again. Please help as I am quickly running out of glow plugs!! Also, I have two manuals. The earlier version says mount without the washer. The newer one says use the washer. Which is correct? |
RE: Jetcat glow plug problem
Hello,
What version ECU do you have? |
RE: Jetcat glow plug problem
It is a V 2.0 ECU

RE: Jetcat glow plug problem
Assuming your battery is the 6 cell 1200 mah, and assuming your connections are ok, try to run a colder plug such as the OS 8 or similar and also run down your ecu battery a little bit and see if it helps(run the starter motor a few times).

RE: Jetcat glow plug problem
Do yourself a favor and upgrade your ECU. I'm sure everyone will agree.

RE: Jetcat glow plug problem
they come with a Rossi R8 plug, a "very cold" plug
my P-80 V4.0 blew a plug right after charging the battery, Like EHAB said run the starter motor, it will take the peak off the battery |
RE: Jetcat glow plug problem
My new Jet cat Titan came with an OS- A5 plug. The factory glow setting (2.1) will work fine. I typically replace the OS with the Rossi R-8 and they last FOREVER. Only thing you need to do is change the glow setting to 2.5 or 2.6 for smooth starts.

RE: Jetcat glow plug problem
The info that I have is that the ECU version is fine in 35Mhz as used in the UK. I have listened to the comments regarding the plug type but I think that if you turn down the voltage on the ECU then any plug should glow without failing,
I think that either I am dong something wrong or there is a fault somewhere. |
RE: Jetcat glow plug problem
it may pay you to carefully check the main ecu to starter/glow cable, i had a problem with one which had a partial short intermittently supplying starter current to the plug, blowing it instantly

RE: Jetcat glow plug problem
I now have no plugs left. 4 have failed in my quest to resolve the problem. Can anyone take a photo of the cable ends so I can check mine is wired correctly?
Plug voltage is now set at 1.0V with no improvement. Battery has not been charged for a few weeks so shouldn't be too powerful. I will also look for shorts. Something is not right here! |

I thought it would be easier if I showed you my plugs. I'm 99% sure they are OK but i'm running out of things to check.

RE: Jetcat glow plug problem
Sorry for the late reply,
There was a bug in firmware that could have caused glo plug failure, but it would not be on every power cycle, it was more random. I am trying to get ahold of Bob to get this answer and one other one, they might already be heading to Arizona. When I hear something I will post. |
RE: Jetcat glow plug problem
Thanks Mr Matt

RE: Jetcat glow plug problem
I'm even more confused now! These plug failures are all happening with the engine in the 'off' position. The glow plug shouldn't even be on at all. AAAAAaaaaahhh.

RE: Jetcat glow plug problem
Check the actual voltage at the glow lead with a volt meter

RE: Jetcat glow plug problem
Just spoke to Jetcat UK. Still not 100% sure but we think there is a short under the purple cover. Engine and ECU going back to be tested.
This is my first turbine and although I thought something was up I thought it might be me being a baffoon. Might as well upgrade the ECU at the same time. |
