Simjet 1200AES SP 16 1/2# Thrust?

I'm looking to get one of these and I'd like feedback of current owners AND operators of the Simjet 1200AES SP (16 1/2# thrust version ONLY). How long have you had it? How many hours/starts do you have on it? Any problems with starting? Throttle response in seconds? Overall impression? Would you buy another? How was the service? Factory reps too! Just identify yourself as one in your reply.

Thank You
Dave Rigotti

RE: Simjet 1200AES SP 16 1/2# Thrust?

Hi Dave,

I have one but I have only owned it for a couple of months. I did take it out of the box and mount it on a test stand in which it started the very first attempt but I have not had the chance to run it since. As far as throttle response I can't offer any actual data but it did seem to be very responsive to stick movements. I had the 1200 AES for more than a year and it gave me no problems whatsoever and runs great which was my reasoning for buying the 1200 AES SP. As for service, Great Northern Models have been very helpful in answering any questions and resolving any problems that I have had.

Hello Dave.

I have used the 1200 SP engine in an Avonds F-104, a Kangaroo and my F-35. I really is fantastic that such a small engine can produce so much power. Response time is very good. Go to the SimJet at www.simjet.com and learn more about the specs. of the engine. Also read the test that RCJI magazine did of the 1200. I am convinced that you will find it a very good buy and the best value for money in its class.

Thanks for the reply.
How many hours/starts do you have on it?
Throttle response in seconds?
I'm aware of the specs.
Have you had any service done/required on it(them)?

Thanks
Dave Rigotti

RE: Simjet 1200AES SP 16 1/2# Thrust?

Hello Dave.

I have about 15 hours runtime/ approx. 250 starts on the 1200's I have owned. There was an issue with the rpm sensor once. It was fixed at no charge by SimJet.

Throttle response is about 2,5 seconds from idle to full throttle, but from ½ throttle to full it is almost instant response.

Stig,
Thanks for the throttle response time in seconds
The 15 hours/250 starts are these numbers specific to the 1200AES SP? I'm ONLY interested in info for the specific turbine I'm looking at.

Thanks

The run time is about half and half on 1200 and 1200 SP. They are basically the same engines.
