Question about a wren engine and the small Hawk

This particular combo has always intrigued me cause the airplane costs $600.00 and the engine brand new is like $1500.00. Servos are a few hundred and who doesn't have spring airs all over the place to put in a small jet like this?

So essentially for half the price of a large turbine engine you could have a cool looking turbine jet. I'd like to recommend to a friend that he try this, but I have yet to hear of anyone having success with this combo.

I have video of Greg from Colorado and his at Greater TX last year. It tip stalled on take off and initially I thought that the airplane was moving too slow at rotation, but I've watched the video a few times and I think it was moving along just fine and should have climbed out. So must have been a wing loading issue?

Greg if you're reading this, is there anything in hind sight that you might have done differently? Not that it had to do with the failure, but I think we both agreed the nose wheel steering could have been more positive and maybe something about the CG?

I too am intrigued by this, but I think that the engine (MW-54) is now more than $1500.

Sean,

I would also suggest calling Larry from Jet Hangar to inquire about this setup. He has one that he has been flying and has had good results.

Hey JR, happy new year to you. Can you get me some contact info?

A phone call or two wouldn't hurt.

RE: Question about a wren engine and the small Hawk

Sean and Wocket..the current pricing (on the JHH web page) range from $1800 to $2200, depending on the configuration you want...and the dollar not tanking again against the British Pound!
Yup there were some issues, one of which was weight...hello lipos?...and a few others I'm still sorting through. (It's not at tthe top of my priorities list right now, since it's ski season and the Rockies are getting fluff!!! :D )
In all fairness to JHH, this kit had been from China, to Ca, to NJ to CO over the last three years, so ...???
It will fly, just not tomorrow.
I have flown Larry Wolfe's original prototype, which was a smooth performer, which is why I have mine.
Give Larry a call...he'll be glad to give you any and all information you could desire, including set-ups.

Greg
