HYSOL substitute???
 

Hi,
We bumped into this EVOSTICK tube and tried a few experiments with it to afix formers to epoxy fuselages. Contents are paste-like and there are no ruuns when applied vertically.
The tube is applied with the means of a silicon gun and results after 24 hours were very encouraging with regards to strength as the accompanying photos show.
We have neither tried it "on board" nor exposed it to any heat source as yet.

The product is easily available locally (unlike Hysol), strong, no runs and cheap.

Has anybody done any experimenting with this product?

Looks like liquid nails sold over here in the states. I have used it before sorta like i would use PFM. Never tried it on any formers etc.

Any particular locations in the states? I did a search and only found it in the UK, but I also found it in a squeeze tube.

You are correct. I did browse around for information on this type of EVOSTIK and only fouund them available in UK in press type tubes rather than silicon gun type. I am sure that these are very commonly found also in the latter format as I do not think they would only do them for the local market only. Consequently, maybe we have not tried enough to find a source.
Luckily the local price is reasonable...approx $2.7 per tube.

I wonder if my local HOME DEPOT might have this stuff? It definitely looks like something I'd like to try.

Home Depot sells a product called Liquid Nails, it appears to be the same as Evostik, they make a clear and kind of a beige color too.None of this stuff is two part so there can`t be the same tenstile strength but i have used this on other things and the adhesion is very strong.

Guys if you eventually try this product or something close to this just drop us a line here and tell us of your experience. Indeed that stuff does get hard but as I said earlier it is a bit premature to say if it is actually a valid substitute to Hysol since I do not have any experience with the stuff being close to a heat source.

Liquid nails and F-26 are two very strong construction adhesives, I use them all the time to fasten conduit boxes to concrete blocks, etc...they are both rather heavy though and at least the F-26 is not very easy to spread, kind of a gummy consitency. It does hold up very well, I don't think I would use it for a model application mainly bbecause of the weight and spreadability issues.

Doesn't the manufacturer have a tech sheet with tensile strengths and such for easy comparison???
