EJF Rafale .45 DF conversion Question
If it were me, I'd look first at the wing area of this plane. If its not similar to other .45 size planes, I'd forget it. This size is usually in the 500+ sq. in. range.
Will the fan fit? Is there room for fuel (16 oz. on up) close to the CG? Will the thrust tube (3.75" exit dia.) and tuned pipe fit? Is there enough inlet area to support the fan? If so........... Go for it. Jim |

EJF Rafale .45 DF conversion Question
Danny Starkey, the king of .21 powered jets, did a conversion of this to a .21. There's an article about him and his .21 planes (with lots of picts of the .21 rafale) in RCJI a few issues ago. He's been known to get 150mph+ out of his .21 jets.
Email him at [email protected] or check out his website at http://www.dannystarkey.freeserve.co.uk/ Good luck! Russ [email protected] |

EJF Rafale .45 DF conversion Question
I remember danny starkey's one, the 21 was really crammed in there. Doubt if a 45 will go. Think, also, about where the fuel will go...

EJF Rafale .45 DF conversion Question
The EJF Rafale is WAY TOO SMALL for .45 DF, period. Laugh off the project and look for something bigger for your .45 DF unit.

EJF Rafale .45 DF conversion Question
Ive got the midi fan size one at the moment. DOnt know what diameter the 45 size fan is but the 90 mm midi fan it was designed for fits nicely with no excess room.
There wouldnt be room for fuel over the cg. The ducting would be in the way. THe AUW is 5.2 pounds with awing loading of 33oz/ft The rafale i believe is larger inside, thats why that may have worked. THere is the aeronaut rafale- 50" long and 40" wingspan for two 90 mm fans. The 45 might fit in there??? ( AUW 8-9 lbs) |
EJF Rafale .45 DF conversion Question
Way too small, I have one that I converted to pusher prop .40
havent tried it yet though. Neet little jet, but front end is way out of proportion. |
EJF Rafale .45 DF conversion Question

rpmodeltech, is it the aeronaut rafale aor the EJF rafale you have. Just for everyones information- i looked into the rafale a few months back and was told the wing wasbeing redesigned for a new airfoil ( apparently that was happening for six months before that also, so i wouldnt hold your breath if you want one. |
