Please let us all know what the response is........I am just about to get started in jets with a ducted fan and the demise of this engine would be a real concern for me! :(

I have already looked at the Tower website and noted it says discontinued......but that could just mean that Tower has discontinued carrying it as a stock line!

I wonder if it could also mean that there is a replacement coming from OS for this engine?

noahb 09-08-2002 06:10 PM

GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here it is folks...#@$%& OS bailed out on us. This is what I got back from product support.Hello,

Thanks for your email!

Unfortunately, OS has discontinued their .91 ducted fan engines.

Why this is being done is not clear.

We also have had no word on a newer .91 size engine.

Sorry we could not help!

But what about us guys just trying to get started in jets? What do we do when there are no more DF engines available?

I wonder how long of a life the BVM DF power packages have left?

With OS stopping production on this engine and K&B not really having anything I see this as a huge setback for the RC Jet community. What new jet flier is going to spend $2500 on a engine then another $2000-$3000 on airframe and misc parts for it.

So much for flying jet's with a $2500 jet. Looks like it's something greater than $5000. That SUCKS

VFR Rider,

what you can do is buy a Wren MW53 kit turbine and scratch build your own airframe.=$3k or less-and the engine and ecu are AMA approved.

Littlepiston,

you can make your own fuel tanks out of soda bottles, etc. Buy used gear like retracts, etc., you would be suprised how much of this stuff you can make yourself- turbine flight box-not that much different than a glow fuel box-5 gallon fuel container-buy it at Wal Mart -$10- fuel pump-$15 at auto parts stores-scratch build yourself a jet out of wood and foam-just draw a plane on a sheet of paper that looks like any modern jet-you can do it ! -you can build a jet out of wood and foam for $100 or less......fire ext.-used CO2 at a Fire Ext. shop-$25-$50.-come on brother-you're a BUILDER right ?!

E's are cheap...
OS91 VRDF's may get pretty expensive now. I will have to hold onto my 3 and see how valuable they get.

How much is a wren turbine kit?

I am getting a mig 29 and I could easily convert that frame to turbine.

Plus without df how are we supposed to get practice for the turbine waiver, with a fast prop plane?

Looks like the new bvm 91 and the os 91 I have are staying put...

Exactly! What is the progression to turbines going to be like in the future without DF?

I asked my friend in Japan to speak to O.S., he knows the people well, and here's what he wrote back:

"Just called Mr.Sugawara head quarter of OS engines
he said this engine is still available but not making much
as use to be."

So, straight from O.S. Headquarters in Japan, the 91 is still in production.
