FD 3/67 Operators?
 

Is anyone running the 3/67 currently? If so, in what?

They are good engines and run reliably. The length is 8.7", 4.3" dia. It would be nice if there was a way to get 10# of thrust out of it. I'm currently flying one in a Midwest He-162. It's been my testbed. Initially flown with a dynamax/OS65, it now flys with the turbine. Carrys 46oz of fuel. A mixture of K-1 and Coleman fuel(white gas).

Hi, I had an FD3 and loved it too. I did a test too see if I could make the vaporizer more efficent, and possibly better fuel efficency. The vaporizer is a coiled Inconel tube that spirals around the center of the combustion chamber. So I tried "bunching up" the coil that is in the rear of the engine with SS wire so that the spirals were in the hotter rear combustion area in the chamber. This ended up working very well and I verified that the fuel economy went up caus the pump voltage at full throttle dropped considerably. Also The engine spooled up slightly faster and there were no more hot spots around the turbine section. You could clearly see by looking into the combustion chamber from the back while running that the combustion was MUCH more even. If you try this be sure to use Good quality SS wire of heavy gauge. I ran the engine for many hours like this and worked great.

I have used it in the JHH F86 with a 50 oz tank and the Yellow
A4 also with a 50 oz tank. It is a perfect match. My engine is
currently at Golden West for repair and if I can get Tad to do
the repair I can put it back in the A4. I agree the engine is a
dream.

Oh yeah, I remember I had to turn down the high speed POT to keep the engine from smacking into the rev limiter:)
