How close is the G2 sim to the real thing
I am getting deeper into the hobby and would like to think about ducted fans or even turbines down the line. I fly my g2 Jet with out any problems, but how similar is that to the real thing?

RE: How close is the G2 sim to the real thing
Have somone place a rather large scorpion down your shorts (or something else that will make you very nervous) while you're flying the simulator. If you're knees are shaking, and you can still takeoff, fly and land without any problems, you're probably ready.

LOL! that´s the way it is: no FS can give you the thrill,(or fear) of the real world... perhaps I could put in this way: Walk 10 feet over a perfectly rigid 8 inch wide wood board in the ground,
that´s easy, right? now put the same board at the top of 2 buildings as a bridge and try to do the same crossing looking down... that´s the difference between a FS and r/c flying! Rgds, Enrique |

Enrique - that's a truly excellent analogy !
BTW, I found the realflight sim that I have (the older RFD version) is fine for things like basic fixed wing / heli practice, but totally unrealistic for jets. Supposedly if you spend a lot of time tweaking the settings you should be able to get it more realistic, but the defaults are not. I should soon be receiving my Aerofly sim next week, and look forward to comparing it ot the old RFD. |

Thx Gordon, and kids, please, don´t try to use a FS with a notebook walking in a board over a building with a scorpion in the shorts!!! :)

If anybody is looking for the new G3 version, I have just listed a NIB G3 with the KingCat add-on (Volume 5), in the Classifieds...

RE: How close is the G2 sim to the real thing
field crowds cheers, 10k cash investments pressure and human pride.......can never feel in sim!
But, in some sense, FS can help to practice your control box sticks orientation to b your second nature and indirectly improve your reaction during real flying. regards Albert |
RE: How close is the G2 sim to the real thing
AsiaRC, To be truly honest, I don't care for crowd cheers or pride, or even for breaking a 10K toy, (even never being close to be rich). My greatest fear for flying jets or any high performance airplane is a high energy impact, or debris hitting something or someone, not to mention the fire possibility. I believe that most people think this way... anyway, I always been a advocate for using FS as a training tool, however it cannot teach you to fly under real world pressure, as cited above.
Best regards, Enrique |
RE: How close is the G2 sim to the real thing
You are all echoing what my thoughts were. The Jets in G2 are much easier than I ever thought the real thing would be. I think the Sim is great for learning better quicker reactions, but no replacement for real stick time.
I think it will be a while before I get into the Jets if ever. cheers, manks |
