Robart Replacement Parts?

Hey Folks, just have a quick question. I needed a replacement Trunion for my Robart 635 Euro gear. I called Robart and they didn't have any. They told me to call Planes Plus. I called and Carla helped me out. However, i was charged $57 for a replacement trunion. Does that sound expensive? That includes normal US Mail shipping which i can't imagine would be more than $7 or so. Just seems very expensive to me but anyone else have any idea what it should cost?

TIA

That doesn't sound too bad - there is a lot of machining on the trunion. I ordered steering shafts / bearings and a steering arm for my nose gear a while back. The shaft which is simply a hardened pin whith a mushroom head was a dollar or two, the bearing was more but not too bad - 5 bucks of so. The steering arm which has two parts welded together and painted was around $10 or $12.

Sounds a bit exspensive just for a trunion.

I know there is a fair amount of machining in a trunion but i read on "another forum" that Sierra Giant Scale was making replacement trunions for the 630 gear and they were only around $30. That is what i expected to pay, not $50. Just curious if i paid what i should have, that's all.

Trunions from Robart are 44.00 each. I also tried to get some last year but for 6 weeks I was told that they were making them as we spoke. Needless to say, they weren't. Then I found out why they didn't have any as their Rep was giving them away at jet meets. They were more concerned about PR instead of the paying customer.

The last time I got some trunions from Robart for 630s, I had to have a buddy of mine machine them so that I could install the Robart struts.

Yeah, i called Robart direct and was told "we don't have any in stock but will be making them this week..." Yeah right, heard that before! I waited to get my gear for about 3 months, what would make me believe that. Must be nice to run a business like that where you can treat your customers however you want because you know they will come back because they have no choice!

The 635 is a larger trunion than the stock 630.
