NEED SOME HELP
 

I need some help with my YA f-18 single with a WREN 54 ss. I need an electronic retract valve and break valve. Do I ca the foam tires to the rims? Do I need to modify the engine mounts for the wren? Thanks for the help.

I use the Jetronic brake valve on my F-18 Single and I think it works really well but I use a standard servo driven Robart retract valve.
As far as the foam tires go I would replace them if you are planning on turbine Ops.

I use the Jet-tronics valves also.

I would recommend them for the gear but not the brakes. The valve works, for brakes, by switching on and off at different rates to give you different braking levels. This means you can empty an air tank in a few seconds.

I don't know if the other electronic ones work the same, but my next model will have a manual brake valve.

This is true but I always have enough pressure for my entire flight, I just have to refill every time before I fly. I still think they work well and seem to be less hassle versus the manual valves.

I haven't tried it but I know of several people who have added airline restrictors in the bleed line of the jetronics valve to reduce pressure loss. I plan on giving it a try here in the near future myself.

I will replace the foam tires with rubber ones. I wish somebody had a total retract and brake electronic vale system. I am trying to save weight, and if i can get rid of a servo or two, that would be great. Dose the Jet Tronic valve plug in to the rx?

Yes, the Jetronics valve plugs directly into your receiver. I prefer a slider switch for mine.

I don't think you will have a problem with weight considering you are using the Wren 54 SS although it is better to stay lighter if possible. I have seen this plane on the 12# thrust engines perform very well. I have the Simjet 1200 SP in mine which produces about the same thrust as your Wren and it's a rocket.

how much fuel capacity will you have?

I have the Tam conversion kit with the big tank and two smaller tanks. I will let you know the fuel load when I fill the tanks. How dose your landing gear hold up? Did you glass the gear formeres in?

If you bought the Tam Conversion kit then it probably will hold close to 80oz. of fuel which will give you good flight times.

As far as the gear goes I have had two hornets and on my first one I glassed the gear formers in place but I thought it was overkill. So when I built the second one I used Aeropoxy/Hysol to create a fillet around all of the edges and it is just as strong and much lighter.

If you have the older style Funkey retracts make sure you replace the strut wire with music wire, they are prone to breaking on the older versions but it has been addressed in the newer ones. I would also recommend a gyro for the nose steering, this plane fly really well but it tends to tip on its wing if you are not careful and I think the gyro makes it track allot nicer.

It sounds like the Jet Tronics valves are good. I think I will go with 1 for the retracts and I will use a servo for the brake valve. I used the BVM epoxy to build the model. I love this stuff. I also made carbon fiber plates to mount the retracts. This set up should be very strong and light. I am shooting for less then 15lbs with fuel. Do you think I need the 2 smaller conformal fuel cells, or can I get around 8min with the lg tank and the BVM uat? What controls dose your f-18 have? I am thinking of going with just the (elevons???), NO= rudder/flaps/ali. I will post pic soon
