Help! Computer Probs
Hi,
I woke up this morning, and went to upload some baby pics from my digicam to my laptop, only to find the screen blank and a message reading "No Operating System Found!" I tried to reboot, but nothing is happening. Are there any computer wizzes out there who can help? I'm completely computer-dumb. Please give me a call! Thanks! |

Make sure you haven't left a floppy disk in the drive when you reboot?

RE: Help! Computer Probs
Try to restart the pc in safe mode, when you restart or turn on the pc you should see a black screen which displays some functions either in the top right hand corner, (F2, F1, etc.). Depending on your laptop safe mode in a Dell F8 and F8 on an ibm. (keep pressing when pc starts up).
Try uninstalling what ever program you installed before it BSOD. (Blue screen of Death). restart the pc, should it come back up, go to a command prompt and type: chkdsk /r this should repair any bad sector within the harddrive. Hope this helps. |

Hi,
Put an XP (or whatever you use) disk in on start up, and see if you can install your OS without formatting your disk. If that fails, then the only way to backup your files before formatting is to open it up, connect the harddrive to an other PC as a slave disk, and backup your files from there. This coupld be almost impossible with a laptop! Last idea, get a USB or Firwire harddisk, Install a hard disk onto that, and make it a Master, then backup your files. Use the CMOS menu. |
RE: Help! Computer Probs
If you have windows xp just start up in safe mode then access your restore function.
Set the clock back to a few days ago and it when it reboots it should be fine |

RE: Help! Computer Probs
Try booting from a floppy "boot" disc to see if that works.
Use "FDISK to check partitions, logical drives etc. You can also rewrite the boot sector for the hard drive. The drive has a backup. Access another computer and look up the problem in Microsoft's technology database. |
RE: Help! Computer Probs
when you boot your system and get the "No Operating System Found!! "message it means that either 1 of the 4 key startup files are trashed or your HDD (hard drive) has some serious sector problems where some of the OS startup files are located. Question for you about the laptop would be "Did you ever here any strange sounds coming from the HDD?" Also did you keep your Anti-virus dat files up to date? There could be several possibilities. But as someone has suggested but not quite right, Start your laptop with the Windows XP CD (if you have it) and boot from the CD and run the Windows XP recovery. Sometimes this will work but in my experience the possibility is slim. If that doesn't work, then its a trip to your local Computer repair place to have some expert assistance. Hopefully you still have a warranty on the thing.
Post what your results are and I'll try to help further.... |
