First Jet
 

Ok guys im tiered of these DF i started flying them about 3 years ago and im ready for a new thrill. So i thought i would ask if i bought a smaller sized turbin what should it be and what type of airplane should it be. I love building scale stuff so if there is a good scale airplane that a good turbin airplane let me know. I hate those Bobcats and stuff like that so please none of those. Thanks Jason

I agree, scale is the only way... I have a yellow f-18 single with a 14lbs turbine. This is actually my first jet and it flyies great. Very fast but also very slow and predictable for landings. I really love it.

If you have any of the DF scale jets left over from before, then perhaps it may be best if you converted one of those to a 12+ lb turbine. Save some money as well as not having to get used to a new airframe. Its not all that much work to do the conversion if the airframe is suitable.

Many years ago it was frequent to people said "I am fed up with U-control and I want to start R/C , but I hate ugly sticks, falcons or box-looking trainers.. I want a P-51 or a B-36 with a scale dropping atomic bomb, etc...) then those guys tried to learn r/c with this type of models. Most gave up early. Others where successful, but spent more money, time and effort going this way.


IMHO you should not discard this "jet sport trainers" for a intro in turbine flying, seems to me that they are the most efficient way to achieve rapidly flying proficiency needed for a scale jet plane.

Enrique, i have to agree with Adil. Not only is converting an existing airframe simpler and less costy, but also you have already gained experience on the airframe and know how it will behave. Only "unknown" remains the turbine characteristics.
By flying an airframe you already know, you do not have to worry about that and can concentrate on coping with the new powerplant. Definetly a good way to go in my opinion (thats also how i found my entry...)

The best easy to fly turbiner powered plane that looks like a plane is the L39 Albatos from savex (www.savex.cz).
There is a thread here in RCU about his bird. This plane was my first jet, and I love it. I doesn't stall at all, it is very predictable and can fly so fast and so slow...
The plane ready to fly except for Tx and Rx cost me around 3200 Euros, including the wren 44 turbine.

Alright Thanks for the advice i have flown a turbin f-15 before and loved it so im very confident with flying the scale jets. Thanks once again keep poasting ideas thanks Jason.
