Byron Mig 15
I flew the Byron Mig 15 in the late 80's on an OS 77 and really enjoyed the plane. Somewhat low tech, but flew really well. I would love to see what it would do with an OS91 and a few other mods. I would like to purchase another kit of this plane but Iron Bay is not currently offering this model. Does anyone know where I might locate a kit? Thanks for any info!

RE: Byron Mig 15
check the used market place ; a lot of those planes are available ; not long time ago
there was a NIB for $ 400 i have one , that i am rebuilding for os .91 engine; i call ironbaymodelcompany.com and they sold me some parts : a new nose- inlet , canopy , cokpit , and a new engine former and some small parts for $ 80.- For the OS .91 i will do some changes 1) glass the wings and paint it 2) put the alerons servos in the wing and the elevator in the tail 3) use two ducted fan tanks on each side of the fan 4) weston pipe 5) use spring air retracts , cause of the shoulder wing design , every time a retracts fails i have to do a repair on the botton of the fuse pecojets |
RE: Byron Mig 15
Thanks Pecojets, I checked the market place but no luck. I check E-bay from time to time but haven't located one. I'll keep checking, would love to have another Mig! Let us know how the mods work out on your new build, should fly great with the OS91. Did IronBay indicate that they would release the Mig 15 again? Thanks, Hoghead385

RE: Byron Mig 15
Pecojeets, the kit is mint, one owner but the shipping charges from Canada are $180 plus duties and taxes at the US border! Ouch!

RE: Byron Mig 15
That hurts. Keep looking here and on ebay. I have sold three of them over the years, they average $3-400. The other thing is you had that damn Picco paperweight engine adding a lot of money to that deal. The shipping thing, maybe you can explore some alternative shipping companies, but I am not that surprised at $180. I got an A-4 from canada a couple of years ago, I don't remember what carrier, but it was $75.

RE: Byron Mig 15
to Dominican Republic shoud be around $ 300 .- [:@] pecojets |
RE: Byron Mig 15
The engine did hurt the deal. I have a couple of OS 91s but it was an all or nothing deal. Oh well, I'll keep looking and find one in the good ole USA!

I have a NIB early fixed gear Byron's Mig-15. I also have the conversion kit to install a Ramtec or Dynamax fan. The kit is basically complete, except for the instruction manual and possibly some of the smaller bits. The conversion kit includes a new fibergalss nosering, the intake duct and diffuser for the fan. The tailpipe has been replaced with the rear duct from an Avonds F-104 (Aeroloft). The original tailpipe (Trim Aircraft style) found a home in a D&B MOdels T2-J1 Buckeye I'm building for Dynamax power. The F-104 duct is actually a nicer duct and only needs to be shortened to the correct length. The exit portion of the tailpipe is constant diameter for about the last 12" so cutting to length won't change the diameter of the tailpipe exit. The forward section of the tailpipe is area ruled. I also have a set of used wings from a retract equipped Mig-15 that I'll throw in. If you're interested in the kit drop me an email. I have pictures of the kit. Rich |
