Tam smoke system installation
I have a KingCat and I am installing a Tam smoke system with a V5.0 ECU JetCat P120 . I am interested in some pictures of how the nozzles are mounted on the motor mount and also I was told I could use a 40oz dubro tank but am not sure where this is mounted and how is it secured. As they say pictures are worth a thousand words ....would certainly appreciate both explanation and pics..

RE: Tam smoke system installation
Do not use both sticks, only one.. Turn the pump rate to 45 or 50%. It will increase your smoke on time.
Just my 2 cents.... I own two of them.. They work GREAT!!!! |

Steve,
Here are a few shots of the TAM system on my KC. It's an AMT but would be similar to the JetCat. I have found one of the secrets is to pinch the ends of the nozzles to get a finer spray of the fluid. You can mount your smoke tank in the cavity aft of the main tanks. Believe it or not this is just about on the CG. 40oz will give you 3 or 4 minutes of good smoke but the cavity will hold a 50 oz tank. Craig |

Thanks Craig for the info and pics.....appreciate your time in putting this together....just what I need.....Thanks again..

RE: Tam smoke system installation
Craig....I meant to ask you how the sticks were mounted to the engine mount ....there are two double stainless fins on each and was wondering how you did this.....are they just pinched inbetween the mount or are they drill to match the mounting holes??
also how is the tank secured ..?? It looks like it fits snug in the aft position but not sure...Thanks for the help... Steve |
RE: Tam smoke system installation
.......the stainless fins can be placed on the mounting ring of the turbine
...............tank....just secure it [8D] regards george |

Steve
If you look close at Craig's first picture, you will see that tabs on the tubes are mounted under the mounting straps of the turbine. |
RE: Tam smoke system installation
do you happen to have a picture of the Dean connector and the correcto polarity on the battery size???....I am soldering these connectors and want to make sure they are the correct polarity...

RE: Tam smoke system installation
The deans connector is marked "+" and "-" . It's small but it is there.

Steve,
The Dean connector look like a letter T. The across of the T letter is positive. Hope this help. Brg, Tam ORIGINAL: SHarpoleDDS Wow.....I am using my 4X Loupes and still hving trouble locating the markings on the female side of things,, Regards, Steve |

Here's a photo of my pump installation. Sorry about the poor quality of the photo, but I'm sure you will get the idea.
The spruce cross beam is sitting on top of the main fuel tanks, just behind the vents, and is glued to the fuselage. The plywood tray extends aft, and also rests on top of the tanks. The entire installation must be removed if the main tanks need to come out. Now is the time to remove the soft brass fuel tubes inside the main tanks and replace them with stainless steel tubing, if you make this type of installation. My smoke tank is 32 oz., but I'm sure that a larger tank would fit. I just happened to have the tank available when I installed the system. The battery supplied with the system is mounted to the bottom of the tray with tie wraps. A switch is required, or the battery will discharge if left connected. In this location, there is no interference with the KingCat cockpit and pilot installation. Harley Condra BVM REP JetCat REP |
RE: Tam smoke system installation
HI all, I just received a Tams smoke pump and would like to verify normal opperation.
First to get the pump to turn off on aux 2, I have to set the travell to 150 and when it is off, I get a hum. With the aux 2, I can get the two different pump speeds, but I am concerned about the pump hum in the off position. Tams instructions say to set aux 2 at -100 and +100, but at those setting, the pump will not turn off. Any advice will be appreciated. Rcpete |
