CAI info?

Anyone got any info on the new CAI? I did a search, but found little info on the new incarnation.

the guys who bought AMT USA also bought CAI. Give John over there a call .... I htink before CAI products start apearing, there are sill issues with AMT engines that are being worked on .. They are good guys, and are trying to do a lot to try and bring AMT and CAI back to life..

I think the AMT-USA fellows have that line now, they are just starting up may take some time yet.

Yea, AMT has acquired CAI molds, inventory, parts, plans, specs, etc. and relocated to Cincinnati.
They are critiquing every model, model by model, and will not release any kit until they have been updated and test each item. The F-100 will probably be the first to be released mid 2006.

How is your AT450 doing? Did the repairs work out?

RE: CAI info?

its the at400 Curtis ... No they did not .. I paid over $300 to get it fixed ( which would have been under warranty as per when i purchased it ). New bearings, combustion chamber ( now you tell me why i needed a new combustion chamber on an engine with not much more than 2 dozzen flights ..?? ) and correctly redrilled holes in the shaft tunnel. I get the engine back, and on its 4th flight, it siezes up AGAIN !! .. worse of all its on a slow, low pass ... fortunately it was a king cat, and i made it around the field for a landing ... this is the 4th time now that I have almost lost a $12K+ plane to this heap of junk. It back out to the factory YET AGAIN ! ... I'm pretty pissed. ... if this was JetCat, i would have had a new turbine by now .... Actually, JetCat did that for me once ... When my PH3T powered Jetcopter shed a belt ( one of the early versions) , Bob Wilcox without me even asking did right by me .. I still have that original PH3t and actually have it going into yet another heli, and its running strong like new ..

Ouch! So, so far, you have wasted how much money on that engine? I know you had to return the other one and do a chargeback.
Maybe they should just give you your money back.
I wonder if this will be the level of customer service when they reintroduce the CAI planes? They seem to have enough money to buy out CAI, but not enough money to take care of the AMT stuff. Hmmm...

Glad to hear it. My CAI Raptor was not exactly the poster-child for a well-done kit - while I've heard that CAI may have already addressed some of the problems, it's reassuring to know that the new owners will be taking a fresh look at everything.

I have 2 of the last produced Raptor kits ... all fit is 100% perfect, and both are laid up very well ... One i will fly, the second will be used as a spare ... You still have yours Gordon ?

Yup. Hasn't been used much, but I do still have it ready to fly. Good to know that the later stuff is indeed better, as that hopefully bodes fairly well for the state of the tooling etc that the new owners presumably obtained.

BTW, if you should happen to need replacement flex plates in the meantime (before the new owners can supply spares) ... Art from Art's Hobbies took the measurements from my spare set, and came up with replacements cut from carbon-fibre plate.

Well, remember that if you truly "land" way, way too hard, then you don't need replacement flex plates, since there's nothing much for you to attach them to ! ;)

With Woj, the flex plates help prevent damage to the RUNWAY.

you have me mixedup with Alan .... and its not the runway that needs the protestion, but the trees ..

Hey Everybody,
CAI is once again for sale. We bought all the assets from Scotty with plans of starting it back up. Seems our eyes were a little big for our stomachs. We are very busy with AMT and getting that business underway
We are selling everything that we bought from Scotty which includes all molds, plugs, spare parts, finished planes and carrying cases. Tons of stuff
If anyone is interested in buying a potentially great company they should give me a call, I would be happy to answer any and all questions.

Hey, weren't you just accusing someone else of being "out of the loop?" Was just a week or two ago.

Gentelmen
Here are the facts about CAI. Although CAI was to be operated under the umbrella of R/P International Jets Inc. the same as AMTUSA, it is owned by Tim and Leo Gerbus.
Although they are both great guys, they are not hobbyist and have a different way of doing business. They are from the world of big business and just do not connect with modelers.
They have chosen to sell CAI to R/P International Jets Inc. or anyone else that they can. They want out of the hobby industry. I will admit that it is not for everyone. You must have broad shoulders and a strong stomach to listen and deal with all the bull. It is because of these facts, Tim and Leo Gerbus have chosen to step away from the hobby business. This includes CAI and AMTUSA. They will remain silent partners and on the board of R/P International Jets inc.. As of today I will head all day to day operations at AMTUSA. I am where the buck stops so if anyone has questions I can be reached by phone or email (513) 769-4539 [email protected] .

sounds as though all is not quite as freindly as before,i hope this parting of the partners doesn't put an end to amt. that would really hurt alot of engine owners out there.there are no quick fixes to an amt like there is if you have a ram or wren etc., amt owners better cross your fingers!

A good point.
I know you have had great success with AMTs, are yours from the USA or NL?
