I live just a few blocks from the USS Intrepid Sea/Air/Space Museum, so when fellow jet modeller Bruce Mondeitz from Australia came to NYC on a quick visit, I gave him the nickel tour. Here are some jet pics you might like. I won't waste your time with any of those rickety old prop jobbies they have...
Here's a Skyhawk...

Some weird-looking Air Force jet that can't make it off a carrier...

Blackbird. When they first opened up over a decade ago, you could sit in the cockpit of the Blackbird. I did. They don't let you do that anymore. They probably have a Club locked over the control column nowadays, after all, it's still New York, pally...

It's go no elevators, which is something of a disadvantage for the modeller, but hey, you don't have a cockpit to detail, either!

I was lucky to bump into a girl I know, who was running the combat flight simulator concession on the hangar deck. She gave us a free extra long ride. This thing was pretty serious, with full motion, the thing actually rolls upside down, no kidding. We flew around quite a bit, making ourselves pretty airsick, but managed to hit nothing at all, except a mountaintop. Still a pretty awesome simulator, definitely check it out...

Thought some might appreciate the pics.
Interesting story I remember, about how that F4 ended up there. Seems like somebody landed it so hard the wing spar cracked, and the plane had to be retired. Wonder if they took it out of his salary...
Why the nosegear on the Vigilante? I am building a Mark Frankel one, and I thought for many years that the Vigi nose gear retracted straight up. Bruce pointed out that it obviously does not, take a look at the doors. Don't know what aircraft I got it confused with.

Thanks for the pics curtis! Been quite a few years since I have been to the intrepid.
BTW...Any info you need on the VIGI I can get for you from Phil Nuckles. He just bought his molds back from Tim Davis and should start producing them again shortly.... He has also done a turbine conversion for it. He has an extensive photo documentation of this plane if you have any questions I am sure I can get a pic of any area you may need.

Thanks! I had tried to find the American Modelling site, but it was gone. I think I may be better off just getting his kit, instead of pursuing my Frankel one further. It is heavy and old, and for twin fan, and I have serious doubts about turbinizing that all wood wing anyway. His kit looked really nice, and a good deal at $795. Does he have a site up again?

No...Not yet. Still in the trasition phase of getting the molds back and into operation. Would expect him to have a few pulled by first of the year. He did finally retire his byron version and is building one for a ram 750 now. I'll let you know when things are back in gear.
