Jets for a 35 to 40 lbs thrust engine??

I just purchased a used AMT AT400, and regarless of the past posts, I love my current AT400 electric start engine it has been flawless with quicker spool up and spool down than my Jet Cats. This is an air start, but I am going to have it converted to full electric start at the new AMT factory in Ohio.

I have my 1st one in an AD Rafale. It is perfact in that 33 lbs plane. Any sugestions on other Jets that would have amazing flight charactoristics with this 40 lbs thrust class engine.

I was thinking about the new Sky Master F16, any others??

Thanks for your input.

PS. I'v all ready considered BVM F100, Firebird, All ready have a King Cat, etc.

Jason, that is a great one I love that Jet. I hear there may be a new distributor coming soon in the states also.

Thanks

JMP Firebird if your wish is SPEED :D Scale.... F9F -5 Panther by Dan Gill . (it might be overkill with the plus 35 pounds) or the BVM F100 two seater and make it a "Weasel" .

Hi Laura H, I actually have my 1st AT400 in a 2 year old AD Rafale thats is just an awesome combo, I have seen the Composite ARF Lightning fly and it seems to be a really nice plane, but I would prefer a scale bird.
Thanks for the post..

Any Smaller companies over the pond have anything interesting??

I think any plane specified for an engine in the 28 LBS range is a perfect candidate for a 40 LBS engine ... I will agree with you on that the at400 is a great engine, that’s however if you have one that runs reliably, (which so far has been a game of Russian roulette with these) It was perfect on my king cat, and I was going to use one ( which i returned and got a p180 instead) in a CAI Raptor. I think the SM or Tam F-18 is a good candidate as well.. then there are the CompARF euro sport and lightning which would probably be nice homes for this engine too ... if you are sufficiently nuts however, get a hot spot, glass the wings with a carbon veil, reinforce it, and strap the at400 to that :D

I don´t know if you are insulting or praising me, LOL.. however I didn´t glassed the wings with CF
just regular FG ... the CF reinforcements where only at the fuselage.

Best regards, Enrique

Hi Woj,

I actually purchased Kim Gardners AT400, and right now it is on its way to Cinci to be upgraded with Full electric start. My #1 AT400 after being sent back to the factory a few times when it was brand new has worked flawlessly, with all the triumph of that pedigree.

I will Tell you a funny story that occured to me. I received the AT400 Electric start back from the factory about a year ago, reinstalled the engine as i had done before, hooked up the red wire that grounds the spark plug and tried to start the engine 25 times with out success. I am trying everything I can think of and at the same time I am telling myself what a piece of SH_T,,, after many calls to the factory I still could not get it started. Then on one call I made to AMT Bruce asked me where do I have the glow plug red ground wire connected to, and I told him the tie down strape!!!!!!! He told me to remove a screw and put it on the engine. I did, then I flicked the start switch and shazaam..... wow it started right up. Case and point, sometimes even when you look at something you cannot see the problem. I do wish you the best on your AT400, but please be kind to the new Guys, I too have thousands of $$$$ invested in AMT I love the engines and some of your comments my not be 100% accurate, however it can sure persuade many folk who may have been thinking about a great engine like AMT to seek an engine else where, inadvertantly hurting those who need amt to work out some problems and again regain there strengh and support in the market place.

And by the way My friend Uncle Joe, said you have a few nice toys,, looking forward to meeting you some time,, why not come out to Phoenix in the winter and join us during our best time of year for flying.

Regards

Kevin

Kev, the 400 has not been "flawless" i do recall some lenghty down time on that motor early on V..

I use the normal glow plug when i don't get a good spark. It works, just hook it when the starter starts slowing down.
regards
