Jet-A

Hi guys. I have a 5 gallon container of Jet-A that has been sitting around in my garage for about 10 months. I looked inside the jug with a flashlight and found no algae....it looks exactly as it was when I bought it earlier this year. Do you guys think it is ok to use? Oil has not been added to it yet. Thanks in advance!

Pour out a sample in a glass glass container and hold it up to the light , it should be clear in color. If it has yellowed or cloudy in color,i would get rid of it.Just my 2 cents !

Spencer,
If there is no algae growing in it, pour the oil in it and fly it.
Jet A is already slightly toward yellow in color anyway.

I usually get a 100 gallons at a time of Jet-A and it takes a year to burn through it all. I haven't had any problems with the stuff even when I get down to the last drop.

If you really want to be sure, get yourself about 3 or 4 paint filters from an automotive paint store and strain it through all of them at one time and they will catch any algae that might have grown.

Will the paint filters get all of the stuff out? I have a 5 gallon can of Kerosene that is mixed with oil that has been sitting for about 7 months. ( Still building the plane but used it to test the Turbine)

In my experience, if ya can't visually see any contamination from the algae, stop worrying and spend that time flying. I've never had an issue with any no matter how long it sat and I live down here in humid Lousyana. Just try to keep it well sealed.

I have had Jet A in the can for a while also. I buy large supply to make it easier and fewer trips to the airport. Visually inspect.....Then I use 1 filter in tank and three in line from my fuel pump to the plane. Never had an issue.

Good luck and happy flying.
