Small (1/7) Airworld L39 Questions

I am guessing the quality of the kit is pretty good judging by the Airworld products.

I am interested in anyone who has any knowledge of the building instructions. Are they in English? Are they easy to follow?

And the gear, are people using Airworld's gear? What is it like? Any pics? Is this the gear to go for or is there a better set out there?

Any pics of the kit/gear other than those on the website would be appreciated. Any general thoughts would also be gratefully received.

RE: Small (1/7) Airworld L39 Questions

Oh another thing.

There is a cockpit kit for the big one but not the small one. This is obviously a big space to fill. Is there a cockpit kit that will fit (or are there basic parts in the kit)?

Siclick33.

Dave Wilshire did an excellent write up on the 1/7 scale Albatros. I posted it in the Airworld forum with his permission:

Hope this helps.

RE: Small (1/7) Airworld L39 Questions

I see Dave used Spring Air, does anyone have any experience with the Airworld gear?

The Airworld gear is from Germana manufacturer HAWE. They are known for making extremely good landing gear and several kit manufacturers use them

Thanks very much, John.

I hear from Dave Wilshere that the only (English??) instructions that are around are his notes. Does Airworld-USA have any plans to produce an English set of instructions?

RE: Small (1/7) Airworld L39 Questions

Yes,

We are in the process of making manuals. It is a huge undertaking since we have almost 80 different models, but fortunately, many of the construction/installation techniques are the same from plane to plane.

I am currently putting a MIG 21 together and doing the manual at the same time. Someone else is doing the Hawk, and another builder is photographing and documenting the L-39 construction. Same thing is happening with the warbirds and sail planes. More importnatly, we also have the Airworld forum where all our customers can get building support from guys who have experience with the Airworld line. So, if there should be a construction question, it will be answered really quick.

Best,

John,

Don't forget the Me262 which is also being built and photographed.

Oh yeah, forgot about that one.

Twin JetCat P-60 powered. Should be at Florida Jets also. Plus, the forum alread has a detailed construction article on the one (electric version)

haisanjafri 01-02-2014 01:26 AM

Is this Airworld L39 1:7 suitable for JetCat P60 Turbine? Or it'll shall be under powered?

Dave Wilshere 01-02-2014 02:13 AM

Yes, I had a customer build one with a P-60 and it flew fine. I have a P-80 in mine and its very heavy and over powered. Mine is 10 years old and an early "wood" skinned mould, the later kits are foam skinned.

Keep it light and the P-60 will be OK.

Old thread here, but can you remember what the flying weight was, approx - Dave?

Dave Wilshere 03-01-2020 11:49 AM

Mine is a brick! It’s the original wood formed glass layup and heavy paint, with the P-80 it is around 27lb dry...over 30 take off on 550 Sqin!
But it still flies really well, it just lands a little fast with small flaps.
Im about to re Turbine mine with a P-100Rx and Li-Po’s to should get it to 25lb. The later Herex kits were lighter.

Thanks for the info, I must have the same one as you then Dave - mine's a brick too, around 11kg/24lb with a Wren 100 fitted, ready to fly but without fuel.
The wings seem so small for that kind of weight - I've had it for a coupla years now, bought it for a Wren 100 I had - but have never dared fly it !

Dave Wilshere 03-01-2020 07:33 PM

It’s fine, mine had 100’s of flights before I put it in the shelf for a few years.

Its a great wing section!

DH106 03-01-2020 10:07 PM

Maybe I'll get it out this summer - thanks for the advice again ;)

DH106 06-26-2023 12:16 AM

My heavy L-39 finally flew !
And you're absolutely right Dave, it may be heavy but it flies like it's on rails!
I had a friend who has a larger Jet Legends L-39 test fly mine - and he says it's rock solid and flies better than his ! :-)

Dave Wilshere 06-26-2023 11:25 AM

👍

DH106 06-27-2023 02:44 AM

Dave - I'm just trying to definitively identify what make of L-39 mine is, cos I don't think it's the Airworld one after all.
My engine hatch is on the top, whereas piccies I've seen of the Airworld one have it underneath, behind the gear doors. Is yours underneath?
Thanks.

Dave Wilshere 06-28-2023 12:08 PM

Fuselage comes without any cut outs!
I cut mine underneath, but someone could have gone top!

Can’t post a picture? Lots of big rivits?

Dave

DH106 06-28-2023 12:47 PM

Mine's definitely got the turbine hatch molded in the top of the fuselage - it's not just a cut-out.
Dimension-wise, mine's pretty much identical to the published Airworld 1:7 L-39:- length=175cm, span=138cm

Another thing I noticed on the wings is the positioning of the flap servo is different - mine has it further outboard of the gear well. From pictures I've seen of the Airworld one, this servo is positioned inboard behind the gear well. Or maybe this is also a "user cut-out" and can be positioned anywhere? The gear well cut-outs are a different shape.
Also - in the Airworld L-39 the elevator servos appear to be mounted inside each tailplane, with a pushrod underneath to the elevator. On mine, the elevator mechanism is completely internal - the servos are mounted above the tail pipe in the base of the fin and operate the elevators by torque rods either side of the pipe.

Not Airworld

The AW one has live hinges, inc flaps, single wing tube, etc etc

That’s Far East something

DH106 06-28-2023 09:42 PM

Thanks for the info Dave.
I think it's probably the FEJ - 'Fly Eagle Jet' 1:7 L-39.
Anyway, thanks for all your info and encouragement in getting mine flying.
