these days Dave Shulman is the man and a couple of yrs ago at florida jets the guy that won the wjms with the airworld l-39 did some demos that were right there. vinny just my 2 cents prop planes Quique s |
RE: impressed????
I also admire Ali`s flying in the videos I have seen........... It realy makes me want to improve :D
|
RE: impressed????
You said don't mention names so I wont mention Ali's but at The Shkespeare Rally last year he was flying the Strikemaster with virtually no one but me watching.
Nothing spectacular in terms of aerobatics and throwing it around, it just was graceful, flowing, atmospheric and incredible. He also made excellent use of the smoke system to amplify not replace manouveres. It was the kind of flight that just made you stand still and remember you were pitched against nature!!! Gazzer |

Very impressive too. |
RE: impressed????
David Shulman with his p70 powered Super Bandit. Four point rolls at mach 3 wing tips 2ft from the tarmac and he had it every inch of the way. Just the best ive seen.
jason Sorry didn`t mean to mention his name.. |
RE: impressed????

RE: impressed????
Many many years ago...A guy prop hanging amodel taking it behind a car around the field still prop hanging taking the model out of sight but still prop hanging....Same guy flying weston uk Magnum in the dark at our field during a local meeting and landing it at his feet. Flying on pure sound. No names mentioned there;):D;)

RE: impressed????
Although not jet related, the one flight that left an indelible mark on me was a demo at my local club field about 10 years ago by the then UK aerobatic champion. I couldn't believe a model could be flown that gracefully and accurately.

RE: impressed????
oh my God that is insane wojtek.... After that takeoff I think I would have been running for the hills!
Greg |
RE: impressed????
So i take it you are impressed too Greg ??? :D ;)
|
RE: impressed????
Wotjek
Two things I noticed. 1. The guy at the right hand side of the take off run directly below where the aircraft hit. Be he doesn't stand there anymore! 2. Alan did not shout landing. It is really rotten to see an aircraft go in and that looked to me as if it was the total of totalism, a great shame. However if your going out in style, they don't get more stylish than that![:@] Commiserations to Alan, Gazzer |
RE: impressed????
The most impressive flying I've seen was Mark Leavesly and some other guy flying a night time aerobatic formation with 40% aerobatic planes.
This was 8 years ago at the JWM in England and I was so amazed that to this date, I don't know if I really saw it or not...:D I haven't seen anything in 8 years more impressive than that. Are they still doing it? Jack G Diaz |
RE: impressed????
Hey Vinny,
How about Fio flying his Y/A A-4 at FBF. I have a video of that somewhere, geez he impressed the heck out of me. Also the first time i saw BV flying his (new at the time) Mig-15 V.. |
RE: impressed????
hey vin
i also remember his BV blue angel a-4s kb 7.5 35 percent nitro fuel 2 flts on a glow plug vinny also the JMP f-4 both of them and the first YA f-18 |
RE: impressed????
Some of my personal highlight:
Rob Jainger and Tom Dodgen flying kingCat formation at FJ 04 Thomas Gleissner at FJ 02 flying the L-39 David Shulman greasing Joe Grice's "Pretty Penny" in for another 99.999 point flight at Top Gun Thomas Gleissner's JWM winning flight in Hungary with the BAe Hawk Ali M with his first Boomerang demo at FJ First time seeing Quique S. fly to music. Alan Szabo Jr. doing his Raptor thingie. Tracy Jensen's famous 4 foot inverted flyby of the Starjet with 4 screaming playboy bunnies inside.[&:] |
RE: impressed????
Liberty Bell 2005, it was late in the day on saturday, about 7 pm . A jet pilot test flew his aircraft and it was totally out of control. it was on a B line for the ground. then Eric ran over grabbed the transmitter and save that guys jet. that is what has impressed me in a long time
|
RE: impressed????
that routeine Tom Dodgen and Dave Malchione did with their f100s supr of the moment was quite impresive as well at the 2005 Liberty Bell Jet rally !! it looked as if it had been practicd several time over, when in fact it was the first shot at it .. i especially remember the 2 f100s crossing right at field center ...
it was a good show .. Wojtek |
RE: impressed????
ORIGINAL: Gazzer that looked to me as if it was the total of totalism wojtek: im impressed, you don't see 5 grand explode into a clump of trees to often.... Greg, |
RE: impressed????
Quique Somenzini hands down takes my vote.
|
RE: impressed????
Wolfgang Klur's night flights during Superman 2001...never saw anything like it before or since, not even close.
BTW they changed the AMA rules after those flights! |
RE: impressed????
Sorry, dupe post

RE: impressed????
My old club VP, who used to complain about everyone's flying and guys drinking, took his 12 lb. .40 sized trainer off and proceeded to fly through the pits and then through the tent where all his buddies were sitting. Geezers were gawk'n, squawk'n, and bail'n out. He kept "control" and made a descent landing and promptly asked me for a beer. He never again complained about drinking beer at the field after that. (circa 1982 when beer was legal;))

RE: impressed????
Bob Fiorenze did put on some fantastic demo flights with all of the YA airframes, but the most impressive YA F-14 flight I ever saw was flown by Dennis Crooks at a Greater SW fan fly in the early '90s.
I have seen some pretty impressive F-4 Phantom flying from David Reid, Phil Nuza and Tom Cook. |

Graupner 75year event at Kirschiem Tek in Germany last year.
A large scale Extra and a full size one in a formation aerobatics display, some of the best RC flying I've seen. Hopefully one of our German friends has some video footage and can post it up here. Here's two pics, one of the model Extra (painted in the full size colours), the other of a flypast |
RE: impressed????
Perfect rolling circles on an F4 flown by Malchione. 2 totally blind dead stick landings behind the trees by Adil Nasim.
Wojtek hitting a coffee cup with a trainer, 1 foot off of the ground on an uneven grass runway (although I think the actual hit was luck). |
RE: impressed????
*heh*
The post says no names, so I won't mention one....SOME of you might know him, but I doubt many would. One of the fellows at our field was, back in his day, a fairly regular participant in various national and international pattern events. Marriage, a few kids, etc, has put an end to those days. USUALLY, he'll come out to the field once a week or so, hang out for a few hours, and just have a good time with the rest of us. He'll fly foamies, or toss a funtana around, or every so often bring his 40% Extra 300 for a thrill....but again, nothing too "serious", he just enjoys the company and the flying. About 2 months ago though, he shows up with one of his old pattern ships...a custom design of his own, and one he successfully sold for a few years when he was building/competing regularly. He lit her up, and off he went. [X(] [X(] I've NEVER seen anything like it. The precision, the grace, the control. It was simply stunning to watch. I've seen various demos of numerous planes by uncountable pilots...some have been _COOL_, others _AMAZING_, a few _INCREDIBLE_...and whatever adjective might come to mind. But this....this was _ART_. I told him later "______...THAT was why the rest of us mere mortals want to fly airplanes." |
RE: impressed????
Ali Machinchy flying a star-spangled F-15 at Old Warden some years ago. Just fearless and fun...the plane was far from overpowered, but he knew EXACTLY how much energy was there in it.
|
RE: impressed????
I believe at the 2005 3W Airshow Thomas Gleissner did a low fly by twice with his BAE Hawk and both times put the centerline tank in the short grass. Talk about touch and goes.

RE: impressed????
actually, the servo mounting blocks were not glued in properly ( only CA) .... here is a reenacment of the servo mounting procedure that caused both servos in both wings to simultaneously depart ... flutter was the after efect ...

RE: impressed????
I hate when that happens[:@] Should have put some pubes in there for strenfgh.
|
RE: impressed????
Actually Woj, TJ once told me that the pubies act as a kicker for the Philadelphia brand Cream Cheese (they won't work on the cheap Wynn-Dixie or Kroger brands).
|
RE: impressed????
HAY! stop picking on me[>:] or i will have to report you guys to the moderators:D
I rushed to get her in the air and never went over the servo install in the wings when i got them back from the painter....[&o] OH WELL, on to the next one...... Alan |

Alan, i will give you credit were it is due ;) ... While we are on the topic of being "impressed" by a flight performance, i do have to say your first complete turbine flight ( without blowing up the forest) went excellent with your BobCat last week ... nice smooth take off, smooth flight, and nice landing with no bounces, and it came back all good .. also, nice recovery on that failsafe hit that took your turbine out on your second flight .. good landing on your first flameout :D ..... I was not impressed however with the paint job on your all white bob cat .... I don't know if you were going for a Picasso look there , but the 3 pieces of uncut monokote trim sheet just did not cut it, and did not leave me "impressed" :D
i do also have say that your trim sheet application procedure seems to mimick that of your servo installation technique .... just like the servos in the Grippen, your "paint scheme" departed the plane rather quickly :D:D:D |
RE: impressed????
Impressive flying? At a jet fly? At the 2004 Wangaratta jet fly we were given a demo of a full size P-40. I said to my buddy if we are lucky he will do a low pass, maybe really low like 100 feet. After a big dive to build up speed (probably close to 400 mph) he made a pass at less than 10 feet, so low he was raising dust! Impressed, you bet! - John.

RE: impressed????
I was stationed in Japan during the 1986-87 time frame and went to a big Japanese model meet in Saitama, Japan. Mr Saito was there flying his big bipe with his new radial engine. But the real crowd pleaser was Hanno Prettner that flew his own design pattern ship in an absolutely incredible routine. Pure poetry in motion. I will never forget it.
