ONE QUESTION ONLY BEFORE I EXPLODE
Dear Sirs.
please i need your opinion on somethink cose i maybe must move to beginers forum .... WHEN you want to remove an air line from a fitings niple...and you cut the line out ARE YOU CAREFULL NOT to damage the cone of the niple cose this will cose airleak next time OR IT DOSENT MATER??????????????? >>>>>>>>>or HOW MUCH MATTERS?????????? thank you for your time spendin reading my post and reply cose this is important to me cose right now im very mad....probably the next days coming ill let you know what is going on thank you again |
RE: ONE QUESTION ONLY BEFORE I EXPLODE
Cutting it off at the nipple can score it and cause leaking, yes
|
RE: ONE QUESTION ONLY BEFORE I EXPLODE
Ya, it matters, I always take a pair of dikes and pinch it from the side, you can pinch some away from the nipple and then crunch through the air line, then it will smoothly come off.
Been doing that for years and never a leak caused. Regards, Sean |
RE: ONE QUESTION ONLY BEFORE I EXPLODE
Of course what really keeps it from leaking is this:

RE: ONE QUESTION ONLY BEFORE I EXPLODE
If I can't simply pull the airline off, then I take a very sharp xacto blade and carefully cut only partway through the airline, along the centreline of the nipple. Then I pull the airline at 90 degrees to the niple, putting stress on the line so that it splits along the cut-line.
Dunno how clear that explanation is. |
RE: ONE QUESTION ONLY BEFORE I EXPLODE
I'm using a heat gun, then just pull and it comes off

RE: ONE QUESTION ONLY BEFORE I EXPLODE
George, it is well known that the nipple works, However, you're gonna have a hard time telling me that putting safety wire on the nipple doesn't help contain any leak that might occur.
You asked the opinions, last thing you need to do is come on here and tell someone he's wrong, I mean, something so simple as an airline on the nipple, and apparently you F'ed it up. You're not the first or last, but I have seen many a tidy installation that someone took the time to safety wire their air lines. It is common enough practice. |
RE: ONE QUESTION ONLY BEFORE I EXPLODE
carefully touch a warm-hot solder pencil around on it, wiggle, pull it off.

SO EVERYBODY READ THIS AND DONT MAKE MY MISTAKE ..... waiting a month and a half , for my order to come that in the order where tanks of airpower and T airfitings of the same company. i must say that no problem had with any of the rest of the products or the company i placed the order just with the spesifick airpower products so after a long time i had to fly i get two days of my work and start servis my jet. all airlines out and new placed. rerot them. and cut them on presise lenth. place tanks on nose and fitings PLACE IN EACH NIPLE OF EACH FITING WIRE.....and we mean alot of fitings including doors and so .......only this took me an evening work it all out prepare it and on final i gaved air presure to check everythink. "WHAT THE..."[X(] [:@][:@] IT WAS LIKE I WAS DREAMING AND I LEAVED MY WORST NIGHTMER[:@][:@] do you know the sound when you have a air leak from a bad conaction .... well this sount was ALL OVER MY JET LAAAOUD [:@][:@] :(:(and i was so ooo panik cose i coulnt unterstant what did i do whrong:(:( so I ASK YOU what i like to ask IS IS ANY ONE THERE ON AIRPOWER HAVE EVER BUILD NOT A JET BUT AT LEAST A PLANE WITH RETRACTS?????????? >>BECOSE: it seams that THEy GRAB THE NIPLES TO PLACE THEM TO THE FITING WITH PLYERSS!!!!!!!!!!!!! RE: ONE QUESTION ONLY BEFORE I EXPLODE
I use the heat method too. If you are in a confined space and can't use a heat gun, touch a soldering iron to the end of the tubing and it will pull right off.

Safety wiring these will also greatly reduce the occurence of leaks. Bob |
RE: ONE QUESTION ONLY BEFORE I EXPLODE
Sounds familiar, I bought some airpower T's las year. Almost all of them leaked so I threw em in the trash and replaced with Robart and Spring Air parts.

Since Geroge brought this to my attention, I went and check my inventory of Airpower Tee fittings checking for the markings he describes. I did find a bag that had fittings with these markings. It took a magnifying glass for me to see them but indeed, there are some small scores in the brass nipple. What I found strange... I have literally sold thousands of these Tee fittings, they are one of our most popular items, and never had one complaint of leaks caused by the fittings. I decided to see if I could get one to leak. Took the worst one I could find in the bag of 10, seen in pictures one and two (had to set the camera to Macro for these shots, scores look pretty big here). I tied two of the ports together with some Dreamworks airline, hooked the third to my hand pump and pumped it up to 160psi.... That was an hour ago, still sitting at 160psi. I have wiggled, pulled, flexed the lines in every direction....no leaks.
What I have found is the brand of Airline used makes a huge difference! I was able to get the cheap Asian translucent type airlines to leak on this fitting by bending the line close to the barb BUT.... I plugged that same airline onto another brand metal Tee we carry and I was able to get leaks on that one using the same method as well. Dreamworks airline is made to spec from a heat resistant material with thicker walls and slighly smaller ID for tight, leak free connections. I would be willing to bet George is using a low quality Asian (usually translucent) airline which is more likely the cause of his airleaks. We stopped using this type of line several years ago for this very reason... George...I would be happy to replace your Airpower Tee fittings with Tamjet metal Tees if you wish although I doubt this will resolve your leaks. Let me know what you would like to do... Todd |

RE: ONE QUESTION ONLY BEFORE I EXPLODE
George,
Any of those damaged tees you don't want, send them to me. I'll put a couple of wraps of safety wire around the line behind the barb and fly 'em... Bob |
RE: ONE QUESTION ONLY BEFORE I EXPLODE

RE: ONE QUESTION ONLY BEFORE I EXPLODE
Ah, going to Festo fittings - that should work
Good luck... |
RE: ONE QUESTION ONLY BEFORE I EXPLODE
I just use a set of angled mini shears an pinch the line at the top without ever coming in contact with the T. Works great .. Here is a link to the ones I have

RE: ONE QUESTION ONLY BEFORE I EXPLODE
I have never had a problem with ANY of my installations about leaking air, i simply make sure to cut the tubing squarley and make sure it is all the way on the fittings... I have used plastic BVM fittings and the plastic robart and spring air fittings, I have never used the metal fittings yet..If the fittings are marred from improper cutting or line removal this may be your problem also you may have the wrong diamator line..These guys have covered all the possible ways that you should remove a line if you have it messed up.. I have always used the robart line but latley i have used the colored line from Todd, Still no leaks.. Make sure you are using the right diamator line on your install, i "think" air line is 3mm or just a shade smaller, NOT the 4mm you use for fuel... Russ
