Duralite Electronic switch
 

I see that Duralite has new Electronic switch with built in Regulator and if the switch should fail it stays on.

What are your impressions if you are using this unit?

They have had the fail safe switches for a few years... are you talking about the powerbox? I have used duralites for 5 years now, had one switch fail on in that time... this was in a glow heli...lots of vibes, numerous crashes... I think its a pretty cool idea, one more area we don't have to worry about :-)

I have one in my shop that I use during the build process of my airplanes. I always use a heavy duty switch from JR or Electrodynam.com I don't know if it's my particular switch/regulator, but the switch is the same size as the .40 size airplane switches, the really cheapie ones. And I don't feel like I get a very positive on/off feel to the switching action. That's why I never installed it.

Todd Whitkoff really praises this device, which has always made me wonder if mine is an anomoly. Anyway, FWIW. I have "heard" of switches failing, but I've never come across a failed switch, not even this one.

Wow, a 119.00 dollar switch? I hope it provides other services too besides the LEDs! :)

I don't see a voltage output choice for that switch/regulator. I wonder if different outputs are available?

Sean,
The switch indicated by Bob is different than the unit you are familliar with. This "newer" unit is designed for dual redundant batteries, both regualted and offering failsafe for both packs.
I have tested this unit throughly on the bench before listing it on Dreamworks, I am very confident in the quality and performance this unit offers. Yet another step forward in providing system redundancy and reliability to our aircraft.
Duralite now offers their single pack, failsafe switched regulators with a Futaba style heavy duty switch as well....

One thing I did want to note on these switches....

They are rated at Five Amps. I would not suggest using these in large, high amp-draw airframes. For these applications, the standard failsafe switched regulator would be a better choice.
