Custom Noseleg Tips Required

1 Attachment(s)
I need a scale noseleg for my new model, which is a Mick Reeves 1/6th scale Venom. The nearest I have found is Sierra's Vampire leg but it is the wrong scale. I have asked if they can make a smaller one but have had no reply.

If I don't hear anything (or they can't help) I have two options. The first is to hope someone here knows where to get something suitable (pic below) and the second is to have a custom noseleg made.

I was thinking of trying emachineshop.com as this name cropped up on an earlier thread. Did anyone get round to using them?

If I have one made, what material and method should I specify? Is casting or milling better (stronger)?

Does anyone know anywhere that will custom make a leg without me having to sell a limb to pay for it?

I think you would want to machine it out of bar stock. A casting would break.
I also think you want some one to do 34 hours of design and machine work for $49.00

What makes you think that? [:@]

34 Hours @ $25/hour ( a reasonable rate for machine, design tooling fixtures and & materials is 25/hr. That also a good rate to have somone to change the oil in your car.) = $850. Would you pay $850 for the nose gear strut?

Or if you can find a good tool maker that can do it in 3 days. 8hrs x3 =24 hours 24hrs x $25 = $600. Would you pay $600 for the strut?

To get the price down to $250 he would have to complet the job in 10 hours. Small job shops wont take 1 of design and machine job like this. Best to find a retired guy with a shop in his basement.

I dont know what e machine would charge but you have to provide the design.

Darren

Is the noseleg that Mick Reeves sells not scale enough? There is a build thread running on the RC Model Flyers Index at the moment maybe that will assist you with a suitable noseleg. You could also try Steve Brett who entered a Venom at the WJM.

I provide the design on CAD and CNC milling machine makes part in 3 minutes.
No more than 20 minutes to load the program/tools/material.
I, maybe, need 3 parts for my design. Probably not much more than 1 hours work.

I can't see why this would cost $250. Maybe I am dreaming!!
If using CNC then I may order a few to reduce unit costs and sell a couple on.

Anyone used emachineshop?

John,

I may have to go with the MR (Eurokit) noseleg if I have to but it's not very scale. IB uses the MR noseleg. I'm not sure what Steve is using. I'm already being helped by IB. There is no way I could build this kit on my own. It's not the clearest (most accurate) of plans with no instructions!
