Micro Turbine Bench Control Unit.
Hello jet flyers,
I received a control box with an turbine engine I purchased on Ebay. It is a small white/cream colored box with a knob and push button. It is labelled Micro Turbine Bench Control Unit. It has connectors for battery, fuel pump, starter etc. Does anyone know anything about this gizmo? Thanks, DW_Crash |

Post a picture?

RE: Micro Turbine Bench Control Unit.
That's a Jetjoe manual control unit, basically just a speed control for your fuel pump, with outputs to power a wand starter, too. It's for BENCH running your jetjoe. Not for flying...

RE: Micro Turbine Bench Control Unit.
Easytiger,
Thanks for the info. IS this unit similar to one you had with your JetJoe? Is it in the box with the Reaper? Thanks, DW_Crash |
RE: Micro Turbine Bench Control Unit.
I have one, yes, identical. I will throw it in if you want. The Reaper needed two seperate boxes, the fuse box is not closed yet. Purolator should pick them up this week, I will let you know when they do.
Did you get an ECU with this engine you are talking about? You can't fly the thing with just the Bench Control Unit thingie. Did you get a starter wand, too? |

Now THAT'S funny.
Now, isn't there a special Hell for that kind of heresy? |

Easytiger,
No, I did not get the starter or a flight system. Just the bench controller. I still have to purchase a ECU, fuel pump, valves, thermocouple and speed sensor. Sure, throw the controller in the box. What I really need is the instructions for the controller and the engine. Did the autostart starter arrive from JetJoe? GLAD to hear that you will be shipping this week. I'd sure like to have at least one flyable jet for spring. The snow should be gone in a couple of weeks. I still have to do something with this other WREN Clone I got. ECU wise etc. PLease send tracking info when you have it. Thanks, DW_Crash |
RE: Micro Turbine Bench Control Unit.
I can hear it now:
"Forgive me Bob for I have sinned. I flew a foamie park flyer. I'm so sorry, I just couldn't help myself; what shall I do?" "It's O.K. son - drink this koolaid, say 4,000,000 hail Violett's and exorcise those demons by burning all your foamie stuff. Defile not the alter with your presence but place your credit card in the collection plate on your way out. After a morning period of 30 days, you may again come into my presence and purchase from me - if you have kept yourself pure." And I think the hell involves CA glue and body parts if I remember correctly... Ahh the wonders of Photoshop and internet entertainment ! |
RE: Micro Turbine Bench Control Unit.
lol, thats some funny stuff, hope you don't have to order anything from uncle Bob .

That picture is flat-out the funniest thing I have EVER seen here! I tip my Chinese-made BVM hat to you! Can I use that for my avatar? Can you give him a starter wand for a scepter? |
RE: Micro Turbine Bench Control Unit.
I have the instructions, yes, I will put them in... The Wren Clone, I saw that thread, I don't know anything about it, but my GUESS is it also is a Jetjoe, with a green cover. Some green covers were evidently made, Model Engines in Australia was going to sell the Jetjoe under the JLT brand name, and they showed one with a green cover. I beleive they decided(don't know why) not to sell them after all. Whether or not that guy Ricky in Argentina knew what it was, I really have no idea, he MIGHT have bought them as Wrens and he himself been deceived, I don't know a thing about it. If you got a bare engine, you can order an ECU and thermocouple(and starter and fuel pump if you need) from Wren or Jetjoe, and you are in business. |
RE: Micro Turbine Bench Control Unit.
that is a spectacular photo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but u will pay dearly for the sin against my god

RE: Micro Turbine Bench Control Unit.
Easytiger,
Thanks for the info. I also appreciate you sending along the instructions you have. I will have to order and ecu etc. from JetJoe. I send the engine to a friend to be checked out. He has a balancer. I really want to confirm the engine is balanced before I run it. I understand an out of balance engine can be dangerous. The one I am getting from you. It was balanced etc. Ran fine? I can't wait to try it. Thanks, DW_Crash |
RE: Micro Turbine Bench Control Unit.
Just one comment Dave... I'm not intimately knowledgeable with Jet Joes with the exception of photos off the net, and I don't want to express a biased opinion here... A turbine wheel with no visible marking may be unbalanced or may be in fact be balanced. The grinding marks may be limited to a balancing ring on the front side of the wheel (if it has one), or it may be 'perfect' (very unlikely on the 2nd one...) Based on the photos and the story line so far, You're probably wise to have it looked over though...
Good luck with the motor and let us all know how it works out for you. Kelly |

This one ran just great, no balance issues whatsoever. It's the latest model, and certainly much more debugged over the very first ones that had some real issues. Actually, some of the first ones ran fine, some had problems. But the recent ones seem to all be good. If you have a friend with a balancer, might as well take advantage of him, it's a little peace of mind. |
RE: Micro Turbine Bench Control Unit.
Kelly,
Your right! That is why I sent it to be checked. I'd hate for your old AV8R to explode in the air. That would not be a noble death.... The GWM engine just doesn't mount on a AV8R. GWM were firewall mount and cannot be strapped on top of a pylon. Hence, my search for another engine. And my presetn grief... Thanks, Dave |
RE: Micro Turbine Bench Control Unit.
If there is any question as to the condition of the motor by all means have it balanced, look at all the parts to see if there are any problems then put it back together and run it. Jetjoe motors are good motors, they need to be tweeked sometimes as the manufacturing tolerances are not as good as other manufactures. I have lots of experiance with jjs as well as other motors. Go slow and enjoy.
Sorry just my three cents.[8D] |

Now Ronnie, you can do better than that - my goodness man, raise the bar!
Let's see transmitters, etc. Or perhaps Uncle B. giving dispensation??? Probably should leave the poor pope out of this. I mean what did he do to be dragged down to our depths in this venue? Anyways I expect more (or less depending on your perspective) out of you man! This place is a sure good entertainment venue to blow off work steam .... |

Thanks Jim3d2004,
I appreciate the advise. Gald to here that you have had good luck with JetJoes. I will have to keep in touch after I get my engine back from service. Which ECU did you use? Did you use the JetJoe Fuel pump or the upgrade one? Thanks, DW_Crash |
