Interesting. Does it measure fuel flow?

Also, that's a very neat header tank. How does it work? Does it have a filter like the UAT, or does it simply contain a pickup tube?

Yes, the Flowmeter and the AirUnit measure the mass flow of fuel and transmit the data current to the GroundUnit ...

The Fuelwatch will cost approximately euro 270,--. As kit. The most expensive are thereby the two really very good radio modules in the free 433MHz-frequency. Approx. euro 2x90,--

hello @all,

i see there is a very high intrest about the fuelwatch. Hmm.... i think i have to design a new part in the GroundUnit- software. Which units should i set for the "US-Market"? We use only "ml" (Milliliter) here in Europe.

Most here in the USA would probably like to see it measure in the standard of ounces (oz). Seems this is how the majority rate their fuel consumption. Should be easy enough to convert the mL to ounces though if you round the numbers off "29.57 mL or (30 mL) = 1 oz.

Thanks for reply. The only thing i have to do is to change "ml" in "oz". The software does not use the metric unit "ml". The input is only the number of volume. The fuelwatch counts the pulses from the flowmeter. Arghhh.. i designed the software and forgot how it works.. grngnrrrnf:eek:

This unit is great.. and what if you guys add a alarm to fuel level, batt level, turbine flameout, stall speed and too much g´s?

all together? ... in this case a lovely and euphonious female voice tells you: "EJECT EJECT EJECT!!!!!!!":D

But when you "only" have a low fuel level and/or a low batt level a peeper will tell you - hey its time to land.

Ok, the Fuelwatch tells you also when the transmit signal is lost or when the GroundUnit can´t analyse data (based on radio interference)

LOL.. Ok, but what if you just add to it a small voltage detector on the pump just to warn the pilot a turbine stop as early as possible? that would make the unit 100% compatible with any turbine around, and it would be not much more complicated to add ( i guess).. anyway, I liked very much

thanks erbroens,

the fuelwatch system is a "stand alone" solution. The system is self-contained. The only thing to do is to put the Flowmeter between the turbine and the pump (preasure side) . Connect the AirUnit to a free port of the reciever or Y-cable (voltage detector R/C Unit and power suply for the AirUnit). But the idea with the second voltage detector for the pump is a great idea! Hmm... i think i will add this function. This will be the fith warning "Turbine stopped" or so.

Spunki: you are right if you are flying alone, but in a crowded r/c club this is often not possible... when a flameout happens in this situation the pilot notices it when the airplane slows down, and at this time it is much harder to do the runway. With this device warning the pilot a few seconds earlier , could make the difference between crashing the plane or not.

Glorfindel: this is also a relative question... a plane with this device can carry no extra fuel for safety margin reasons on timed flights, so a plane with it would be lighter, (or fly longer, if
you prefer).

About extra failures, they are no critical. they didn´t interfere with the plane control, so no harm could be done. About adding more electronics to the plane, that´s no problem too.. you should wait to see what a r/c plane will look in 20 years from now! ;)

And finally about the amount of dead sticks seem per year depend how many flights are done..
there is a strong possibility of this happening in the figure of hundreds of flights.
