Johnny-
I thought I had more on this squadron, but this is all I could find.....sorry it's not more. If I find more, I'll be sure to post it up here. |
RE: Squadron question
Thanks Mark,
I'd love to get a picture of the real one. All the ones I have are drawings or black and white. I just had this 15 finished with this scheme and I would like to see the real one for weathering purpose. Thanks again. |
RE: Squadron question
Johnny, to be honest, all F-15's weather the same and it really depends on how dirty you want it. Since the 48th FIS was stationed at Langley, all the F-15's would have been spotless. Since it's the [former] home of TAC, it's the same base that had airman painting the grass green (I kid you not).
From personal experience, you would see some grease stains from the actuator locations, and a little bit of panel chafing on top of the wings and the engine humps. There will also be chafing from the aft end of all the gear doors, and black coking from the JFS exhaust. I'll see what photos I can come up with of my jet, and others from my last squadron. Ours were kept pretty clean too, but still show all of the above wear & tear. |

Oh this is great !!!!
thank you so much guys for the help and pictures. Mark you're right man they are very clean birds so I guess i'll have my painter keep it sorta clean. Here's what mine looks like prior to weathering with the sun beating hard into it. |

RE: Squadron question
Former for tac, but still First Fighter Wing headquarters.... man them jets are dirty as crap. We'd see them come into the desert when i was on -16's, and think they were navy jets or sumthin. Nick:D

RE: Squadron question
was in 94th at klfi in early eighties...our jets were spotless at the time, wheels painted white after each flight...even before brakes had chance to cool off!! the bird used for static display was not just washed each time, but was almost always repainted completely for vip static displays(slowest jet in the squadron due to all the extra paint! no kiddin!!) when they rolled the phase bird out, it was quite marked up...not for long though! when i was there, the 48th was transitioning to the "A" model eagles and were really never as "bright and shiny" like the first fighter`s. of course, all this was well before real world "senarios of the major kind" we have now...
