Boeing doesn't like personal business email thru their system so I had to change it.

I talked with Luc DeSmet this last year and he had a flying B1-B with ducted fans in Belgium. Andy Johnson has been working on a 1/12th scale plug for several years. I have started the foam core for a 1/12th scale after all the drawing and design work that I did this last year. Photos attached

I have cut the foam for the fuselage and the engine nacelles on my 1/12th scale B1-B. Am working on the swing-wing mechinism and carry through support. I have several hundred close up photos of the B1-B while I was stationed at Mather AFB, CA in 1988 to 1993. It has taken me a few years to get this far.
I used the 2D side of Design CAD 3000 to make all the templates for the fuse. Then I used the 3D side of Design CAD 3000 to make sure all my templates fit together. I now have a complete set of 2D and 3D images on the computer that I have translated to foam.

Molar, that is just awesome work you have done! If you dont mind me asking what do you plan to use for engines ? And if you were to do a kit for someone what would you charge ? I would love to see more of your work! if you could send photos to [email protected] i would be very greatful

The BONE

Roy,

That looks like it is going to be one beautiful airplane!!!
I had aspirations of scratch building a B-1 several years ago, but had to put it on the back burner because other projects kept getting in the way. Yours looks like it is about the same size as what I was thinking of.
I also discussed this project with Mark Hambleton (DCU models), since he had a lot of experience with swing wing models. If you are still in the process of designing the swing wing mechanism and the carry-through I would suggest you give him a call to get some pointers.

What are you doing for the main gear?? That looks to be the most complex part on the entire airplane if you are going to have scale operation.

Would you be interested in selling a semi, or a full blown kit of this model? If so I would be very interested in puchasing one!!

the Bone

Kevin
Thanks.
I have one of DCU's jackscrew from a now deceased F-14 and it has a lot of possibilities. On another thread Jai Young Shim has a great set up for his F-14 that would probably work better.
As to the gear, you are absolutely correct. I have drawn and redrawn on the 3D CAD a scale gear system, but due to the way it articulates, 3 different sets of air cylinders would be needed for each gear. Besides, once it is in the air most folks will not be able to see how the gear works anyway. I will just try to keep it simple.
I currently intend to build just the one plane. No kits in the offering. As I approach the golden years as I have retired from the military and now semi retired from my last job, the wife and I spend time traveling to see our 23 grandchildren. This project has been in the works since 1987 but always takes a backseat to the grandkids.
If your interested in a kit, Andy Johnson has plans to get a kit on the market in the next year or so, if not sooner. It looks awesome.

Wow, I'm impressed. BTW you can tell how hard you been working by that pile of scrap foam in the garage (background)..;-)
Good luck

Hey Dean, Thats one way to motivate......

Actually I have been busting my tail on the B-1. I have the airframe drawings done and am trying to cut them over the holiday. I got access to a CNC mill here in Wichita to cut the prototypes (2) and then I found a place for production work. I am crunching the gear drawings now and trying to fonish them by Monday so that I can send them to a buddy of mine in California to cut the prototype gear. Skins are next to be built and I am confident that I can have a fully functional aircraft by April. I have the brake and retract systemdone and the swing wing system is also complete......the computers to run the flaps and swing wing are being built and the only thing I haven't spent any time on is the weapons package........wouldn't be a Bone if you couldn't drop anything out of it!! Feel free to post this as I am trying to get the "block one" list of potential customers together........

Andy Johnson

PS. Merry Christmas

Sounds great Dean!!! i hope you have a Marry Christmas! I think we'll go out and watch or bring one of Bens planes to fly. I have another T/F P-51 on the table as we speak and a 3W 112" P-51 on the way here, should be here just after the new year :devious:
Anyways you going to bring the A-10 out ? I think Mike Shoemaker said he was going out also ? does anybody else post on here ?

I have a set of landing gear that is fully functional and made just like the real gear. It was made by Lynn McCauly. I have drawn it in Rhino and can scale it to any size.I am also working on a 1/10 scale 171.4 inch. long. Butch [email protected]

Butch
I know 1/12th scale is huge and it takes up a good portion of my garage when I get it laid out. 1/10th scale has to be massive.
Lynn McCauly has done some nice (big) projects in the past and it wouldn't surprise me if he had just about anything for the big bombers laying around.
I would be interested in looking at drawings. My CAD can import .DWG, .DXF, HPGL or IGES format.

Hey Butch,
Don't you do anything small???
By the way, what is it with this snow down here? I come to Dallas for some warm flying weather and look what you do!! :D Sheesh...Merry Christmas everybody!!
