FADEC Data Terminal Extension
Hi Guys,
Does anyone know how to make an extension with male and female ends to allow me to plug the data terminal in away from the FADEC . Ideally I would like to be able to make a custom length . The cable is very similar to a phone cable . I believe it may be an RS 232 cable. Thanks, Marc |

I thought about making my own too. In the end I bought one from Wren. 1ft extension is £8, but other lengths are available to order.

I wonder if it's something that can be sourced at an electronics store ? It would save having to mail order.

Network cable with RJ45 male plug on one end and RJ45 female plug on the other end.

Its an RJ 45 connector on the end of the HDT... You can get straight male/female adaptors or extensions ..... Or you could buy the RJ 45 to USB (FADEC to PC/laptop) DATACABLE (black in photo) and use whatever length USB extension you have lying around.... at work ....:Dor at home...;) http://f5.putfile.com/5/12912132474.jpg |

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the helpful responses . Marc |

Marc... I got Wren to do up a custom one for me (for the AV8R). All I found commercially was male/male ends. You can buy an femal/female adapter (which I did - twice ) but it didn't work. The one from Wren worked first time....

If you want a custom extension lead the Extension that Todd sells can be shortened easilly. The leads are soldered to a small PCB. I have shortened two of mine.

You can buy an femal/female adapter (which I did - twice ) but it didn't work. The one from Wren worked first time.... That's due to the way the network cables are wired up. If you do a simple resistance test on the leads, you'll see that the inputs are not necessarily linked to the outputs you expect. Bring the parts to Princeton later this year and I'll re-wire them for you if you like, assuming we can carefully break open the adaptor casing... I've seen the necessary components here in Vancouver for a few bucks only... I'm sure most good quality electronics shops would have the necessary parts to make this cable for no more than pocket change. Kelly |
RE: FADEC Data Terminal Extension
I took a old network-card from a PC, soldered the female-end off the card. Than a took a short Lan-cable and on one side I cut off the male-end and soldered the female to it.
One thing you have to look after is that you solder straight-straight. So 'wire 1' is also 'wire 1' on the other side. or you buy this (http://www.alternate.nl/html/shop/pr...?artno=RDLZ15&) and a LAN-cable. You can get that connector by your local computer-store. |
