Kangaroo wing bolts.... HELP !

OK, I am almost done with my Kangaroo, hopeing to test fly this Sunday.

I am lost and this is where I need help and maybe even a pic or two. On my Composite - arf Kangaroo, all I have left to do is mount the wings, Now I have the brass tubes in place and the wings on the jet, Problem is, where do you mount the wing bolts, I really don't want to cut the wings on a trail and error basis hopeing to get it right.

For those of you guys who have the Kangaroo, where do you run your wing bolts?

One good place is at the wheel well, you can make a tool that will get you in there. Todd Witkoff did this on his, and I always liked his installation best.

Another option is just forward of the spar as I recall, but might be just behind it, got to make your mind up and go for it.

Mark:
There are several threads from the past about it.
I think it was Todd Witcoff (???) who had a good photo essay on it.
I ran mine just above the main gear, and used a 8/32 bolt with a ball driver through the wheel wells. The bolt was securred by a t-nut through a ply plate epoxied to the wing root.

I used the 6mm blindnuts that were supplied in the wing in front of the spar. I welded 5mm allen wrench long end into the 6mm socket head screw and cut off the the short end. I use a 5mm socket-universal joint-6" extention and a 1/4 drive ratchet to tighten the winbolts.

Once blind nut is in place to transfere hole location...

I used a 6mm by 25 mm socket set screw grind or beltsand a point on the "cup" of the screw. by hand serw it into the wing so the point sticks out 1/8 -1/4 ". With the spar in place put the wing on the two pins should enter the fuse before the pointed setscrew marks the fuse for the wing bolt clearance hole. Also do this to your fin panel the wig bolt has to pass thru here too.

newer Roo's have and added plywood plate to strenthen the landing gear mount you will have to drill throuh this too. from the gear opening you will have to drill the inner bolt hole larger to clear the head of the wing bolt and nylon spaccers listed below.

local hardware store visit nets you:
2- 1/4" fender wahshers
2- 1/4" ID grommets
4- 1/4 ID x 3/8 - 1/2 OD x 1" long nylon spacers

now make a 1 1/ x 1 1/4 x 1/8" ply wood plate
drill a hole on center to mount the grommet in & install grommet
(this plate will capture wing bolt )

ok the fun/frustration begins start with fuse up on is side

1) get the fenderwasher inside the fuse center over the wing bolt hole
2) install wingbolt thru the inner hole then the washt and the clearance hole in the fuse.
3) place 2 on the spacers on the 5mm hexshaft ( from the allan wrench)
4) put fin and wing panels on the jet and draw them up snug using the socket wrech setup.
5) locate plate with grommet test fit over 5mm hex shaft flush to inner gear support plate, then glue in place

the plate with grommet will keep your wing bolt assembly in place and aligned.

note: my picture shows only one spacer on the wing bolt, you will need two. If you use just one the bolt can back up inside the fuse.

The fender washer is to distribute the load the of the wing bolt.
Otherwise the 6 mm socket head screw will crush into the plywood when tightened.

She is FINISHED and ready for test flight. I was hoping for a test flight today, but with winds in the 30 mph range, it will wait for another day. To bad i guess, I was hoping to take it with me to the Mid Atlantic jet rally this coming week.
