behotec j66HP start up question
I have this j66 engine and since the time I bought it there has been a starting problem. The ECU is a projet Hornet. The problem is as follows:
Each time I initiate a start sequence, the starter motor spools with no ignition. It then spools again and ignition happens this time with a flame. The start up then proceeds normally. I have reduced the propane modulation to 25% from recommended 70% and the starting flame has considerably reduced to manageable levels. I am still trying to figure out how to make the ignition happen instantly, rather than in the second spool attempt. What are the paramteres that control the ignition part on startup? I have played around with all the settings for a long time, but I am yet to arrive at the perfect setting for instant startups. |
RE: behotec j66HP start up question
Is the propane valve opening during the first spool up? Is there power to the glo plug during the first spool up? I am not familiar with this turbine but could that be the normal startup sequence?

RE: behotec j66HP start up question
yes i can hear the propane valve during the start up sequence. I am presuming the glow plug is alive as it pops on the second spool up.

RE: behotec j66HP start up question
I just checked up the glow plug...there is ample power to it on the first spool up. I checked it by removing the plug with the wire still on it, and grounding it to the turbine chassis. When the starter motor spooled, there was a nice bright continous glow on the plug. Default voltage is lower, I have gone upto 2.8v with no change in performance. Can too high a glow voltage also be a problem for ignition? If I can write down the factors that affect ignition, I think I can solve this problem.

RE: behotec j66HP start up question
Some ECU mix air and propane on the first start sequence. Then on the second attemp the propane would ignition. (RAM.T-750.T-900)

i also had the same problem with my Behotec jb130 the glowplug behotec uses is a rossi 8 .
a very cold glowplug i changed it for a hotter glowplug a rossi 3 or a turbineglowplug from dreamworks is also good . and from that moment it starts exelent evry time in the normal way and lower the voltage to the glowplug in its factory setting |
RE: behotec j66HP start up question
im using the os type F glow plug...is that bad?

RE: behotec j66HP start up question
i dont know did you pull out the coil ?
if that isn't good go for the hotter glowplug . p.s i'm looking for a place to download the software called proprog it's for the program dongle pd1 to read out the ecu on my p.c. do you guy's know where? projet doesn't offer it as a download thanks in advance |
RE: behotec j66HP start up question
yes ofcourse the coils are pulled out as per instructions. I will try a mccoy #9 now.
