Any mounting strap tips?

Any mounting strap tips?
During a inspection I found that my turbine has moved slightly forward within the mounting straps (only about 3 mm) It can't come out as various screws on both sides of the straps will hold it anyway. But I don't like the idea (shifting C of G etc) I'm using the black (heat resistant?) double sided tape between the straps and outer case as per mounting instructions. It feels rock solid but the tape must get soft when hot or warm. Any tips to prevent this? Thanks in advance! http://image.rcuniverse.com/forum/up...82/Hf99958.jpg |

Had the same thing happen to me the first time I ran up my Wren. An official brown trouser moment.
I got some 400 grade wet and dry, cut it into strips, glued it to the inside of the straps and that has fixed the problem. |
RE: Any mounting strap tips?
I used a jet strap on a 30 pounds thrust motor. Not recommended though as I had to get the strap so tight on the motor to stop movement that it began to deform the release latches.
Aside from that I think its a really good product. I have glued thin leather to the inside of other 'normal' straps and have found this to adequate. Jeff |

RE: Any mounting strap tips?
I have had the P200 slip so far forward on the Jet Luge (toward my head [X(]) that the only thing keeping it from going further was the glowplug. I found that with all the heating, cooling and stress the straps actually stretched a little. I wished the JetCats had a little more contained mounting system, like indentations formed on the case, but they don't. I ended up using strips of cut-up beer can as shims to take up the space. (finally... a good use for Budwieser). Also, just to make me feel better about what was happening behind my head, I put "teeth" on the straps by knurling the contact surface. The first one I scored a cross hatch pattern with a razor, the new one I rolled with a knurling tool.

All the things you can learn !!
I never heard of a "Jet Luge" [sm=surprised.gif] , but now I can add that to my vocabulary, same for the "brown trouser moment" (although I had many of them in the past..:D) Thanks guys, I like the leather option as well as the sandpaper, just wouldn't like to scratch my expensive toy. I think I know where to go from here. Thanks all for your input! GJ http://people.aapt.net.au/gjmustang/.../turb_back.jpg |
